Default "Special" belly pan nuts and bolts.

Starting the timing belt job. Had to remove the belly pans.
The good news is they seem to be some nice aftermarket metal ones. Anybody know who makes these?
Front pan:

Rear pan:

That made me happy... but now it starts to get weird.....
Here were the middle bolts for the front pan. Are they supposed to be different lengths? Also shown is a oil-drenched acorn that tumbled out. It seems happy little rodents had taken up residence in the air intake years ago when it was parked in a non-sealed garage.

The big WONDERFUL suprise is the fasteners and washers used for the deep arms on the front and back belly pans. Can you see anything unusual?
(I'm using a big picture so you can get a real good look)

Yes. Those are pennies with holes in them. And blue woodscrews.
I tremble in fear as I delve further. The good news is that the thing runs and looks beautiful, inside and out.

Any vendor happen to have the REAL nuts and washers for these?
Here are the ones for the front and back that look "normal":
FRONT (3 on the front, 3 on the back.. there are supposed to be 4 on the front):

BACK (these were on the very back)

Love the service cover!

The journey begins.....

The front looks like the 928 International aluminium metal pan.
The rear is the stock unit.
I have the install kits for both if you need them.
$17 for the front and $14.40 for the rear. No pennies were harmed in making up my kits 8>)

Hi Borland,
I guess you have not purchased anything from Porsche latley 8>)
Try buying the parts you just listed and then make your statement again at resale values.

Hi Roger

Do you do the pans ??

There is a guy in the UK called REDSHARK who sells ally pans (which I think he gets from the US)and for my S2 I need 2...(the extra one for front apparently)...

He charges around £300 for them (WITHOUT fitting kits) and I wondered if even including carriage to the UK yours with fitting kits would be cheaper ??

I have none at moment...

All the best Brett

Hi Borland,
What is your price for the kit using Porsche parts - maybe we can buy from you?
Best,
Roger

The kit for the belly pan are 10mm and 12mm hex, I believe.
And the bolts/screws have captive washers built-in so you don't have to be fishing for the separate
bits on the garage floor whilst trying the balance the belly pan on your belly or your head.
Got my set from a 928 vendor.

Got tired of the philips head, sae, metric hex and whatnot assorted fasteners.

Earnest from Texas had some interesting fasteners holding his front pan up: really small zip ties and most all broken or missing. It did work for about 1000 miles, but his pan came off and was left next to a trash can on the BRP...

I am going to get some of those nut serts for a couple mounting points to the body, those holes can easily get too loose to hold a screw.

Roger,

I buy all my Porsche parts at deep discount. But I'm not a reseller, so your out of luck.

I'll delete my prior post so you don't loose any business here on RENNLIST. Sorry

Hi Borland,
No need to delete your post - buying the parts at deep discounts from Porsche is good as long as everyone can do the same.
The margin I make is very small on the cost and for my profit I buy all the parts and put them together in a kit for those less fortunate than you and I.
I did not mean to offend in any way but my prices were very fair and could not see the kit being any cheaper unless after market parts were used.
Best regards,
Roger

Hi Brett,
I sell the 928 Int belley pan as it is the best and only alternative available at $279.
Both the front and rear pans are no longer available from Porsche.
Shipping is the issue. In the case of Australia I cut the pan into 4 and ship it that way.
It is re-welded once it arrives. Shipping I am sure will be the same issue for the UK 8>(
Roger
