Hey guys.
About to replace Ball Joints, lower on 84' 928S.
There is a steel cap over the nut for the BJ.
How does this cap come off?
Pull up?
Twist off?
Is it part of the actual BJ Nut and just turn the nut and it all
moves at the same time?
Any help would be great, I am in there now!
Thanks.
Shawn

Hello Shawn,
The cap stays on the nut and is part of it. As you loosen the nut counter clockwise, the cap of the nut will press against the hub assembly and force the ball joint out of the knuckle as you continue to loosen the nut. It's designed with this in mind.

Cool, thanks............got the nut loose, but still trying to split the joint.
I will keep trying to loosen, as doing so applying pressure to the joint.
How much torque needed when turning the nut to pop the joint would you say?
Thanks guys!

Those tapers get REALLY tight, so expect it to take a good deal of force.
You may consider smacking the part of the hub that goes through with a hammer, smack it sideways to help loosen it.

I cant imagine that it can provide the force nessesary to split the joint. the only thing I could get to work was the good ole ball joint separator tool.
