interesting thought Jim .. a football field every 2 seconds or less ... really puts things into perspective, especially should you come to a sudden halt. No wonder it takes Brendan 12 hours Seattle to San Diego .... that's 100mph average, ie a football field every what ... 2.2 seconds for a straight 12 hours ... impressive.

just goto the web sites for them and check into an open practice day. or hook up w/a local club PCA/SCCA/whatever and go w/them. basic equipment is an approved helmet (usually avail for rent), no leaks they can find, basic safety equipment in order, no loose stuff laying around in the car.

careful though - you might get hooked! it's a total hoot ripping around w/out worrying about tickets, kids on bikes or cellphone moms in minivans, etc.

costs are usually pretty cheap compared to a street racing ticket or worse - $35-100/day for most AX events and you'll get to really see what your car can do/learn how to drive it to it's fullest potential and get to hang w/other car nuts.

If he won't go for the autocross ask him if he thinks he's a better driver than you are...he'll most likely say yes, so then tell him the only way to prove that is for him to go get a 20+ year old stock Mustang and you will beat him, or you will show up with a Porsche from the same year as his Mustang and beat him...

Since you are still in High School, you may not be old enough for most DE track events. Auto-X is different though, so you will probably be able to do those. 18 is the min. age for PCA track events and most other big track functions as well.

Track laps are like potato chips, you can't do just one.

Now's the time to decide on the image you want in that school. Are you gonna be the cool guy with the Porsche who cruizes around town and never get's tickets and can afford his insurance? Who always comes off as the mature guy the chicks are drawn to?

Or are you gonna be the idiot riding his bike to school cause his tickets have cost him his liscense and his insurance, or worse yet, his 928 against a tree.

Time to man up and deserve that fine automoble you're lucky enough to be driving.

Your car may be 20 years old but his is built from the same unibody as the 1978 Ford Fairmont. It's true, do some research! Now if only he had one of the earlier 5 liter SN97 models you would be racing a TRUE contemporary!

What you really should do is get yourself a 75 shot wet nitrous kit and go kick his *** (at the strip of course)! I had a similar issue with kid from a high school across town. I picked up some OLD (I mean ANCIENT) nitrous parts on ebay for about 150 bucks. With the help of some friends, I hid the tank under some sweatshirts in the trunk and mounted the solenoids and fogger under the intake plumbing.
By the top of second gear my 1996 BONE STOCK Jetta 2.0 automatic had a length on his 2001 Mustang GT.

I offered to switch cars (not telling him about the little button next to the cigarette lighter) now THAT was funny!!! I Had a greeeeat time tooling him in his own car pedaling the tires all the way through first. "Wow dude your Mustang feels almost as fast as my Jetta, you're not much of a driver are you?"

I know the Porsche community isn't very receptive to drag racing but in this case its probably your best bet to put "Mustang Sally" in his place.
