Default Former stang owner

This is a great thread! Last spring I sold my Mustang GT. Over the summer I went to the local 1/4 mile drag strip for a cruise night. I raced the GT every summer with my club against other car clubs. The track named it the show car shootout. Any way once I got to the cruise I could not take sitting on the sidelines so I went in and raced my 83 S with my old club. It was a full second slower through the traps BUT.... 9mph faster! It ran like that all night w/ a 14.8 dial in. The problem you will have against the ford ( such a dirty word now!) is your 60 ft time. Good luck.

Don't underestimate a sold rear axle car. I doubt his has anything more then stock, but they can be made to handle very well. To the point that one of the top upgrades for the SVT Cobra with IRS is a solid rear axle with a 5-link rear suspension.
This type of setup is available for every Mustang produced for about $1,200.

Check the condition of your steering rack before you autocross. The added stresses of sudden hard steering inputs can blow the seals on an old rack. BTDTGTTS.

Ever see what happens when a tie rod or wheel bearing totally fails at speed??

Your car shouldn't even be on the road.

I also despise most Mustang drivers, BUT... street racing is a big mistake. As someone pointed out, if you lived and someone else died, it will haunt you for life.

This is definitely a case of do as I say, not as I do because I was guilty of street racing in my younger days, but I also saw a lot of friends wrap their Camaros, Dusters, 'Cudas and Mustangs around poles or do end over end flips, not all of them walked away.

Take it to the track or better yet, ignore the people who are egging you on or ask them why they aren't lining up to race him. He's probably getting the same pressure from his friends and in my experience it was always the friends who rode the bus who were the loudest in causing conflict like this.

I find it admirable that a school kid would cover his car. I might make friends with a man like that. I've been called a tool before

Sorry for bringing this thread back up, but I've had the same issue and solved it. Like yourself, some jerk at my high school has a '01 mustang that has a cobra body kit and side skirts, but he kept the stock V6! Anyway he thinks he's the coolest person to ever walk on the face of the planet, always revving the V6 and spinning his tires. On a couple of occasions he's gotten behind me coming home from school and gets right on my tail, it's been very tempting to downshift to 2nd but I've controlled myself. Don't want to ride a bicycle to school. I just waved him on. After restoring my car it's just not worth it. In the end I've got the Porsche and he's got the Ford. Anyway it just so happens I was out at VIR one day and he also happend to be there. We went out on the track and I smoked his ***. My '82 just ran away from him on the straights and through the corners I just widended the gap even more. Lets just say he doesn't talk nearly as much trash as he use to... These car were not created for 0-60 they were designed for 60-120.
