New 928 Owner
I just bought a Gray 928 Auto for 5K. It needs work, it needs a COMPLETE tune up including:
1. Plugs
2. Wires
3. Distributor Cap
4. Distributor Rotor
5. Oil Change and Filter
6. Air Filter
7. Flush and Fill Coolant
8. Change ATF Fluid, Gasket, and Filter
9. Change Brakes and Rotors
10. Clean all grounds and check and replace fuses as necessary.
The interior needs some serious attention, engine runs solid, body is in decent shape, and the AT is decent but it does have a leak near the pan. It is a pretty steady leak when running.
If there is anything that I missed as far as general maintenance goes please add it.

Hi Matt,
Welcome to the club. I take it you might live in the Indy area. There are a couple of us pretty active with 928 that could help you out. Send me an IM with your email and I'll get you on our list.

Congrats on your buy. Love the color combo! The interior color is rare and you may find it difficult to find used replacement leather and vinyl.
Your list is a good start but I would recommend the TB/WP to be at the top of the list if you don't know when it was done.
Did I mention I love the color? Mmmm... Rich.

The list you have is about $1000 in parts. You actually have two distributor caps and rotors. I agree that unless you know when it was done, a timing belt, water pump and inspection of gears is needed. You can do the coolant flush and replace then. Rebuild the tensioner while you are in there. There is a lot of good information about that on the board or from John Kelly's manual.
Check your power steering fluid (it uses ATF).
Your car is an automatic, so also have the flex plate and crank end play checked. Again, good information here on those.
For fuses, check them all. Heck, they are cheap so just replace them all with good quality fuses. Get a few spares of the most common type of relay (53 B).
Do all of these things before moving on to stuff like new wheels or window tinting.
Get to know the 928 vendors: 928 International, 928s R Us, 928 Specialists, 928 Motorsports... Any one of them should be able to tell you what you need if you just tell them the job you're preparing to do.
Welcome and good luck,
Matt

Sorry forgot to mention that I am replacing the timing belt, I have about $1800 worth of parts coming from 928 International and 928 Specialists. It also needs a new PS pump as well. It is on its way. Actually I am replacing all of the belts on the car.
Mechanical Problems/Repairs will be done first! It will remain pretty much stock for now.
Any idea on what the Trans Leak could be from? It is actually leaking in between the pan and what looks to be the converter housing? I bought a AT gasket set so that I could repair whatever gasket was leaking.
Also got the manuals coming on CD from Jim.

Sounds like you have been lurking here, you seem to have a leg up on this thing. Congrats. Did anyone mention to flush brake fluid. Sounds like you got a good deal.

Immediately replace all flexible fuel lines. Twenty year-old rubber is not reliable. Shark fires due to fuel leaks are not uncommon.

First of all, let me welcome you to the 928 family In my opinion, you got yourself an incredible deal for $5K. This gives you $$$ to make any repairs and upgrades should you decided in that direction. Are you planning on doing the work yourself Good luck with your 928, and don't hesitate to ask for advice or assistance. Check with the local 928 group for tech sessions

Where in Indy are you?
I have some 928 specific tools if you want to use them, ie flywheel lock, kempf tb tensioner tool, workshop manuals.
Welcome to the sickness.
