I have been lurking for awhile now, violated the FAQ already by not listing the model year, 1988 928S4. I have read the FAQ over and over again. A lot of great info! I came here first when I was considering the car. It is in good condition for a project car. It is going to be a fun time!

I will definitely look into replacing the fuel lines.

Congratulations on the car!

928srus sell a fuel line kit that includes the available front line and replacements for the other sections in the engine bay. Its an easy job and can be done in a couple of hours. Get yourself a 19mm flare wrench for the fittings too.

Between the fuel lines and power steering lines, also carry a fire extinguisher At least 4lbs.

Oh, add a fuel filter to the list of parts.

Welcome to the Shark Tank! Check your transmission fluid level carefully. A steady leak could be simply an overfilled trans. Do a search on the list for "transmission" and read the threads that pertain to fluid level. Or do what I did and put a tray under the car on level ground in Park or Neutral and while watching the reservoir fluid level, see if the leak slows down and stops. Actually, mine only leaked in reverse until it bled off half a pint and stopped leaking. This is if the leak seems to be coming from the vented slots on the bottom of the torque converter housing. Otherwise it may just be the trans pan gasket. By the way, you got a great deal! They sure came down on the window sticker price. Good luck!

Yeah, it is definitely leaking from the vented area on the torque converter area. I will be replaced the filter and dropping the pan so it hopefully will take care of the problem. The fluid definitely only leaks after the car has been running.

Thanks for the heads up on the fuel line kit! I will order one as well as the knock sensors. I have a fuel filter on its way. I have a lot of work ahead of me and I love working on cars so it should be a fun project.

Thanks again guys for the warm welciome.

Matt,

Mine has been leaking x-mission fluid out of the TC vents for years, but only recently have I had any issues other than a messy garage floor. It's a pretty slow leak < a 6 ounces a year.

Let me know if you would like some help with the ATF pan drop. I've never done one before, but will be doing one soon. I'm good at handing over tools and have a decent collection myself including Porken lift bars.

Maybe we should have an ATF change tech session… I’m betting Rod up in Muncie would let us use his lift. I could supply beer, parts, and a donor car.

Or maybe we could do a TB tensioning session while we are at it. I know there are a few wheel locks and tensioners (including one somewhere in my garage) flying around. I’d be willing to cook up some beef filets if we did both at my house.

A lift would be awesome! Either of those sound good to me! I have a young son and time can be an issue some times.

Two of my cars leak quite a bit of ATF... When they start to shift poorly I top them up (no need to change the oil, it is being changed on a regular basis) and I have had no serious problems. The cost to repair??? $2500 EACH!! YUCK! That will buy a WHOLE LOT OF ATF and rags to clean up with!

Welcome Matt, you've found the right place to keep your 928 running properly.

Looking forward to seeing some shots of your new shark when you have the chance.

I'd be happy to donate the use of my lift, just give me some advance notice. The garage also has a refrigerator..

Welcome aboard...

Free beer and beef... you know i am in. I also have a flywheel lock and Kempf tool, and actually know where they both are.

Matt, thanks for buying that car. You saved me a lot of explaining to my wife. I had been eyeballing it, and it would have brought me nothing but trouble. Hope to meet you soon.

Hey anything I do to help you out Hans!

It is actually running better and better the more I drive it. I just filled it up with premium gas and put some seafoam in there with it. I have only replaced small stuff so far, wipers, battery, and battery terminal. Still waiting on parts to arrive.

This ATF leak is not just a little, so it will be dealt with. I got all winter to take care of this and the PS pump.
