Default 993TT Brake Disk Weight vs. 928GTS Brake Disk Weight

...and the winner is the 993TT 2-piece rotor which comes at 9.1kg

The 928GTS comes at 10.1kg

I also put a 964 Turbo 3.6 1-piece rotor on the scales and it came at 9.85kg

The question: - is it worth making custom hats to be able to utilise the 993TT 2-piece rotors?

Thanks in advance

Alex

depends on what you are planning to do with it. how often you change the rotor, etc.

dont do it for the weight, thats nothing

Will these fit without modifications?

If you are currently using GTS front rotors... (ie have Big Reds or Blacks) then yes.

Otherwise you would also need a kit to upgrade to the Big Red/Black calipers.

Yes, I have upgraded to GTS brakes. The problem is that the hat has different height between 993TT and GTS brakes, that is my concern.

The 'hats' or bells that they make are for 944 conversions.... but with the kits that they offer you can choose a budget version, which utilises a 928GTS rotor.

So their hat design is made to enable a 993TT rotor to have the same offset as a GTS rotor.

...944Turbo S have the same offset to rotor as a 928 S4/GT

The race car has Big Yellows - (I got a set of GTS calipers which were painted by the PO)...

Hmm, Rotor change - not that often - maybe every 25k miles...

Currently, I am using 964 Turbo 3.6 discs, which are the same as GTS discs, but have cast holes in them. I did the weighting purely out of curiosity...

So, you reckon, it is not worth getting my machinist to make a set of hats?

Thanks,

Alex

Fuse69, that's correct, that might be a nice future upgrade as the 964 turbo rotors wear out quickly on my car.

Lindsey hats aren't that expensive at current $US exhange rate. How cheaply your guy can make them. There could be some interest for group buy if he can make even cheaper pieces in good quality.

Erkka, he is cheap... I mean really cheap... We are talking Bulgaria here - average monthly salary of EUR500...

What makes you think that the 993TT rotors will be more durable?

Alex, if you can get them that cheap I'm interested in a pair of hats, please let me know when you have a price.

I was more thinking that it might be possible to mount aftermarket rotors that are more durable and cheaper. I haven't investigated the market yet about the availiability of rotors, so I'm a bit in the dark here with that statement.

I'm running 993 TT cross-drilleds with the Lindsay Racing aluminum hats ... get the ones they sell for 944S2, and they will fit perfectly on a GTS.

Can't recall the exact weight difference, maybe 1.5 lbs per side compared to the one-piece GTS rotors?
