I made a thing! (rear quarter cover temporary fix)
So, we've got this 928, see....and it's got real bad rear quarter cover damage, see....and the PO made the damage even worse, see....but there's no way we can afford new leather skins right now, and it was too unsightly to bear until we can, so I did this!
Whaddya tink?
Before (both sides were the same)
After
Ok, the two blacks are not the same, of course, but are not actually as far apart as they appear here. Bad lighting and poor cell phone camera are more to blame for that. They are different but at least not unsightly in person. And they certainly look a darn sight better than what they were, huh?
[EDIT: All hand-stitched, thank you very much. ]
Comments or compliments gladly accepted by the management -- please leave them in the suggestion box on your way out, thank you!

Not bad at all for a temporary fix. Its amazing to me what PO's do to their cars. My quarter panels looked even worse and the PO STAPLED...yes STAPLED black vinyl over the damaged area. I just recently had both recovered locally. That is a PIA to remove those panels.

The PO probably saved the quarters from warping by being pulled into weird shapes by the vinyl.
Leslie,
As a temporary fix I like it. You've seen my interior and how it's kind of a 'work in progress'. I've had some success with replacing the vinyl on the doors, but as you probably know that requires no sewing skills. The rear quarter covers would be a challenge. I think I might take a shot at mine and if I have any success I'll let you know.
I know the preference on here seems to be: If you're going to reupholster, go with leather. But my car didn't have leather originally and I don't feel any need to upgrade the entire interior to that level. The seats, steering wheel and shifter are the 'contact points' between me and the car, and I like those in leather. The rest is about form following function.
For this, your fix fits the bill and looks much better than it was.
BTW- I found some black vinyl paint that works too. I took out the quarters, straightened out the warps, cleaned them up and painted them because they didn't have any tears and put them back in. Now they look new and if I hadn't told you, you would have thought it was Armor-all or something.

Thanks Mike, and it is leather back there. Both of our cars have leather. And yes, the PO said he was trying to get the leather to lay down flat again and not pull the understructure out of shape, or tear further, as it was starting to do. He was planning some other fix that never happened.
We've dyed it since we got it of course, but nothing could help the cut leather so this is the fix until then.
Hey Rod, that's a darn good idea. This pair was for Kevin's car....it's going to be more of a racing car, and he hates "storage" places.
But when my car needs a set (probably next year, now that it sits in the driveway ), I just might incorporate some pockets.

I think it look pretty go for a quick fix I also like Rod's idea about storage. Maybe bring it down to the carpet and make it look kinda like a saddle bag.
Hey Rod we missed you today in Hell!
