radiator options
Greetings list:
I have noticed in an add for a 928, that the vehicle in question had a C & R racing radiator. On their web site, these seem to be a very inexpensive alternative to the problematic stock unit. While mine is OK (for now) does anyone have any experience installing one of these into an otherwise stock 86 928S 5-speed? They make several models, is there a bolt in solution?

I'm sure the vendors will chime in here, but you may want to stick with them on this one. I think C&R makes the rad for one of the vendors anyway.
And I don't think our rads are problematic. They just get old. If you have a leak on the side tanks, that can be remedies with a gasket.

The C and R which we have built to our specifications fits well into a stock 928 and accepts all the fittings , schrouds , and has the engine oil and trans coolers built in. All of those "EXTRAS" result in it being an $895 solution to the cooling problem . Still less than the Behr plastic tanked original but more than a $300 generic radiator which does not fit...

Think 928 International has only been selling the C&R custom Aluminum radiator for 2 years. Jim B?
So the radiator replacment is a recent service history.

You could also put radiators in the fenders if you, say, needed room for a humungous Air-to-Air intercooler.
Actually three - one in each fender the size of ATV radiators, and one center one about the size of the 996TT center rad.

I have one in mine after going through two rebuilt behr units. Finally decided enough was enough. Had it in now for at least 3 years if my memory serves.
I had a minor issue with a tab.. didn't know it had to be cut off for S4 and later, but I believe 928 Intl now cuts it off for you.
Just make sure you have a right angle fitting/hose for the over flow nipple otherwise it will rub on the hood.
All in all - very pleased with it.. won't go back to the Behr. I'm sure there will be plenty of people that will say the Behr is just fine and they have had no issues... to each is own.

I just installed the 928 Intl C&R in my MY85 auto. It came with all the hardware including the right angle nipple for the overflow hose. Fits like a glove, thicker for more cooling capacity. Plus it looks real pretty!

C & R replacement from 928INT
Just put the C & R radiator in my 89 S4 after having continuous problems with my stock radiator. So far so good! The higher capacity is evident since the car is typically running cooler than it did previously. No need to worry about replacing end tanks.
It's a bit tricky to get the cooling fans back in place since the radiator has more depth than the original. I only have about 3/8" clearance between my fan shrouds and pulleys.
Jim Bailey at 928 Int. is an awesome resource and a nice guy to boot!

I went through some of this recently when the inlet pipe broke on my rad. New 2 cooler genuine here=A$2200. Racing alloy locally made A$1400. Aust Radiator workshop catalog listed a complete 2 cooler unit with plastic end tanks at A$880. Look like identical tanks to the aftermarket units Rog100 sells. I find it hard to believe these are actually made in Oz, the volume wouldnt be worth it, but they had one in stock within a couple of days.
