Well all 1987 cars were S4's. There were no "S" or "Non-S" cars. Assuming you have the right year, the range can be anywhere from $5,000 to $18,000 all depending on mechanical and physical condition.
Not enough info to know a reasonable price on that car... '87 would be the first year of the S4 (more aerodynamic front and rear ends) and in my opinion the S4's are the best performance and value you can get in a 928... The only thing that would be close would be an 84-86 Euro S model, but I still prefer the look of the S4's and GTS's.
Follow Andrew's advice. If regular service was done, look towards the higher side. If no records of work done, price drops. Major service would be the Timing Belt and water pump ($1000+ for a shop to do parts included).

Car is sitting ouside my office here in Annapolis. Black interior with white piping in very nice condition. The auto trans was changed to a 5 speed manual overnight imagine that. A friend here asked me to look into a fair value. Owner wants $10K

Owner is a yacht captain who's boat is here now. Interested party just called me and said he is passing on the car. He is not a Porsche guy at all and never drove the car.
Looks very nice.
Was the 5-spd conversion well done or 1/2 assed (does it shift good and have good clutch and shifter movement).
Any service history? Important thing to note was the last timing belt and water pump replacement.Any interior pics?
If the car drives good and is solid $10k seems very fair.

I was thinking the same thing...not a stock color back then and very rare on 928's as it is! Wonder if you could fix that rear crease in a paintless fashion...
If the A/C is working and T-belt is done and it is in decent shape then $10k would probably be a VERY good deal...

The pearl paint is flashy but appears to be uneven in its color. Some areas seem darker/lighter. May just be the sun or my eyes. Seller reports lots of service records and timing belt replaced.
I was kidding about the trans because the buyer thought it was a automatic. I look in the car and its a factory 5 speed. Seats and leather is nice and the white piping I like. People in Florida are pretty finatical about AC. I am sure its nice and cold.
