Default Seat control problems

I have 12 way adjustable drivers seat (RHD) that I can't get to work correctly. Forward / back works fine. Up / down works fine (all on 1st 4 way switch work OK)

Seat back rest forward / back was working fine, but now will only go backwards. Middle switch up / down function has never worked.

Switch 3 (lumbar and height?) has never worked.

I've checked the operation of the switches and all 3 check out as good, I swapped the known good switch (1) with middle switch just to be sure and all good.

Next I managed to get the seat back returned to upright by jumping the motor direct with 12v - works fine in both directions, also powered up the motors operated by switch 3 and they also work fine.

When I press switch 2 (middle) I can hear the relay pulling in, but I only get movement of the seat back in one direction and nothing else. When I press the lumbar switch, I can't hear any relay click at all.

There is no visible damage to any of the wiring, switches seem good and motors all work. Memory switch in armrest might have given up as well, not sure as I didn't have ignition on, not sure if it needs ignition power to work?

Help! This car is starting to ruin my nerves......

Hey Bert,

do you have memory functions on that seat?

If so, chances are that the culprit is one of the 2 relays that live in both front corners under the seat.

that is not for the faint of heart. I ended up taking mine apart. Each block contains a bunch of relays. Some of which are hard to get to. The blocks do not separate from the loom, so quite a bit of disassembly is necessary.

Once I had the blocks in hand and open, it was not hard to excite each relay and see which one was the problem. I ended up cleaning all of them. No problem since.

By the way, these blocks are not available separately.

Someone else might have a shortcut to do this.

Bert - so you have memory seats? Only memory seats have relays...?

Does the memory function work?

I have memory on drivers side and its not working as far as I can tell, I've just powered up the relays and and they click in and out relative to the switches pressed as per my first post.

My car is a ****.....just refitted the seats and now they've suddenly decided that they will start to work again. Still no lumbar, but i can live without it. I'm sure its a karma thing...2 days of taking seat in and out only to give up, refit and then find there's no problem.
