Default My 79 928

Hi,

thought I'd post up a couple of pics of my 928. It's a 1979 manual (no S), right hand drive, and in british racing green. I'm based in Cork, Ireland, and bought it from a guy in London who was planning to use it as a track car but after years of restoring old cars decided he had enough. He sold a Jensen Interceptor at the same time, has had several Jaguars, etc. He's now driving a 98 Jaguar XJS I think he said, which should hopefully be maintenance free!

Anyway, there's lots of jobs to be done, with it going to be a track car he wasn't too particular with certain jobs so I'm gradually tidying it up bit by bit. Ebay is my friend! Got a nice beige leather interior awaiting installation too...

Got some electrical problems of course - instruments not working, interior lights not working, interior fan stays on, but starts first time every time, all lights work. I'll be going through all the ground points giving them a good clean in the next few days, and have 2 ground wires I need to find homes for, one hanging from the instrument pod in the driver's foot well. I think it's from one of the 3 connectors. Once I've that all done I'll see what it's like then.

Few pics... wheels are 17" Atev alloys, was thinking of putting on some teledials but the Atevs grew on me pretty quickly.

And one of the 'fleet'... my 95 Mitsubishi FTO which is my daily driver, 2L V6, fantastic motor. Interestingly when a friend saw the FTO first she decided it looked like a shark!

Nice color. I really like a green 928. You don't see too many of them. Is it a repaint or are your wheel wells just really clean?

Congratulations and welcome to Rennlist.

from the wheel wells the car looks like it has been repainted not sure if thats the original color. Nice fatties on the rear. You wont find phone dials that will fit those tires unless you get the rims centers cut and spacers added ($$$$) The color looks good, you might take some flat black and spray the fenders down (to get rid of the primer around the edges)

Welcome!!! Nice ride, I love the OB's

An English PO who sprayed the car in British Racing Green, go figure.

Also did you say Jaguar,XJS and maintenance free all in the same sentence?

Nice car. It will look great with the beige interior. Welcome to our aquarium. There are a lot of smart fish swiming around in these waters.

Since Oak Green was available at the time color could be original even while car was repainted.

Is that Mitsubishi FTO in last picture? Always liked them but sadly there were no LHD cars made AFAIK. If they were V6 would be very tempting.

Thanks guys!

It's a respray done by the previous owner. It's actually on it's 3rd colour, originally it was pale blue/turquoise kinda colour, 2nd last owner sprayed it red, and the last owner then sprayed it british racing green. He had pictures of the outside down to bare metal, must scan it in and post it up. He said he was very happy with it, no hidden nasties.

Engine bay and under the carpets are all stil the original colour. Good idea about spraying the wheel arches black, would look tidier alright.

Interior is a bit of a mess at the moment, leather bolster on drivers side fairly cracked, couple of tears in the fabric, no stereo and wiring sticking out from where it would have been. I have a set of beige leather seats ready to go in though so once I get a few more bits and pieces tidied up I'll be installing that.

Lol @ Jag XJS no maintenance, best of luck to the guy but I think he realised himself it might not be plain sailing!

And the Mitsi, yup, that's my other p&j, FTO, 2L GR, V6 engine, manual. Japanese car of the year 94 AND 95 which was unprecedented at the time and hasn't happened since as far as I know. Imported it from Japan about 4 years ago. I've spent far too much money on it, black leather seats, better flow down pipes, Wilwood brake calipers, lowered, etc etc but she's worth every cent. Luckily I can do all the work on it myself which saves a fortune.

Pale blue/turquoise? Sound like petrolium blue.

BTW, Welcome.

The rear wing look a bit weird...

Thanks... didn't know the proper name for the colour, but I think it looked like the one in this auction - ebay link - originally. Another 79 manual coincidently!
