What are the purpose of these on oil filler neck?

it's an oil baffle. It keeps oil from being flung up the filler neck by the crankshaft.

If the gasket is not replaced/sealed at the base when reinstalled it will leak oil onto the engine galley.

Even if it is replaced it will start leaking again within a couple of years.

Use some sensor-safe sealant like yamabond or hondabond or right stuff. It won't leak anymore.

It is a strange design for a gasket. I had to fabricate a S4 gasket as I could not find one for MY 85'. I also used permatex gasket sealer. So far dry but time will tell.

Be careful of Yamabond/Hondabona that stuff is a real bitch to remove esp. from a oil pan gasket. Ask me how I know.

FWIW, I've heard good things about Carl's replacement baffle.
