You get lots of points for massive efforts to rescue this shark. Kudos.

Jason, hopefully some of these guys will offer-up a spare collecting dust.

If not, why not just eliminate the 14 pin. Splice right past it. Who cares? Go for reliability without spend.

No way on color correct, perfectly sized metric wires. Basic colors, wire labels from Home Depot. Proper soldering, within metal NAPA non-insulated crimps, staggered, wrapped with good 3M wire harness wrap.

Smudaaar that price is just too crazy for wires. I'm gonna have to pass.

Chris I was wondering the same thing. Why is it there? I could to the same thing with 2 piece connectors that way they can still be disconnected if need be.

I indulged in the new wiring harness from Carl and I have no complaints, given the difficulty in acquiring them new I bit the bullet and a significant number of electrical issues went away.

Changing it is very easy by 928 standards, hardest part is routing the starter/alternator/oil pressure and level sender wires behind the rear cam cover...the rest is nothing.

I am planning on trying to find a new L-jet harness for when I do my intake/fuel system refresh as I expect crumbling wires and connectores and like the prospect of another 20+ years that a new harness provides. YMMV of course.

Looks simply like a really good junction point for splitting-off a replaceable engine harness.

Do your own.

Thats where I ended-up on the 84. Its reliable and nasty-fast.

86 is different, never adulterated, so maintain it.

I just may do that. I'm waiting to hear back from roger on the parts and a used harness. Chris I'll try and call you tomorrow evening so we can discuss creating the wire harness. Jason

Jason...FYI I think Roger is out on vacation (or shall I say holiday) for a couple of weeks IIRC so it might take him a bit to get back with you. I need to get a couple of parts for both the 82 and 85. Maybe we should put together an Oklahoma group buy!

Jason, I reused all the wire conector ends ecept for those on the alt. For the ones on the 14 pin, I just de soldered by heating up and banging upside down on work bench to clean out old solder. As far as wire colores go I replaced all with color code that would be first on listing eg blue/white=blue and so on, the only exeption was on oil sender due to lack of color selection I went white & black and then relabeled my hard copy of schematics. as far as wire size the wire that I got had both the gauge size and metric size listed(even though I think it was a bit larger) -Mike

michael j wright - Where did you get the multi colored wires? I called Autozone and they don't offer them

Mark - Thanks for trying. Keep supplying the race video I love it

Jason, read my post again- I did NOT use multi color wire I jusst chose a color that was first on color code for wire- eg red/white=red wire blue/white= blue wire exct , on a few ocasions I had to do reverse or change color complety then remarked hard copy of my schematics to reflect my changes. the main thing is to have a diffrent color for each pin, exept in the case like your blue/yellow set up if you change these make shure that they are the same as each other as original. Hell you can make the wires any color that you want as long as you make notations as to who is who in the zoo!- Mike

Ok here's the final story(kinda). Found a used harness here in Ok at oklahoma Foreign. Rode up there to get it this past Saturday and he only had one left and it was in rough shape especially at the alternator(I think). It was in far better shape than my current harness so I talked the guy down to $35.00 for it knowing I could take care of the problems with it(Of coarse I didn't tell him that). Reworked the harness and ohm'd it all and everything was excellent no resistance. Finished installing it tonight and the car is running excellent. Starting better running better and everything is great. Voltage IIRC is 13-14. I even hooked the wires up that idles up the engine for the A/C. I'm so happy I'm sporting wood. The bad thing is I still have the low voltage on the radar detector when I apply the brakes. When I first test drove it, it was doing it just like it was before. But I fired it up again later tonight and it wasn't doing it anymore. I'm thinking I need to look at the circuit the brake lights are on. I don't see the lights dim or the volt guage drop hardly any when I apply the brake so the low voltage just may be on the cigarette lighter plug. Gonna do a bit more research and reread the volts at the battery and the jump post. Thanks for the help the car is running like a bat out of hell. Bawaaaaah

I think you can buy the 14 pin connectors (male and female side) seperately. I don't remember where, but if you search around on the forum you will find it.
