Ryan, I feel for you. There is nothing harder than losing a much loved dog. I've been there a few times. Sorry for you loss.

Wow - what an awesome ride! Sooo smooth... Like brand new!
I met with the [original] owner today, and we went over the car. Both owner and car are very nice!!!
This car ran off the assembly line 16 cars before mine. It is all black, but I forgot to check the options sticker. I don't think there are many options, if any.
Everything seems original and in very clean condition. To my big surprise, though, it had a small "bubble" under the drivers side rear quarter window seal. This needs attention, but otherwise the paint is perfect with no visible rock chips or even a scratch! Even the front fog light glass is smooth as new! The steering wheel still has the original grain - no shiny feel like they usually show after years of hard use. All the materials felt like new - and even the smell inside the car reflected that "new car" feeling!
The car recently got almost $10k of work done at the Porsche dealer, including TB/WP, LH (fried by AAA's attempts to jump start the car), and a new tank (which I have yet to understand why). It also got new tires about a year ago, and the AC was recharged two years ago. Everything functioned, except the drivers side window (it only "clicked" in the door when operating the switch).
I did a test drive, and gosh, it felt like a dream! It doesn't rattle or vibrate, and everything feels tight and perfect as it should be. The brakes are smooth, and the gas pedal seems to have only have the resistance of mine. I did not want to get out...
Overall, I would give it a "9" on a scale of 1 to 10, but it could easily be turned into a "10".
I approached today's meeting with two hats: That of a potential buyer, and that of a 928OC Board Member who wants owners to enjoy their cars and share the experience. After all, I don't really "need" another 928...
It became clear pretty quickly that the owner really does love the car. He just doesn't drive it very much because he doesn't have to, and because of knee problems. And he probably got a bit frustrated about the recent repair bills.
He really isn't ready to (and should not) sell. In the current soft market the car is worth much more to him than it would be to any buyer. I was able to get him excited about the 928OC and norcal928. Maybe we weill see him at a few upcoming events/drives.
For me, it was great to experience what a new 928 felt like. I think I also made a new friend.
