Default 928 Shop Information

I had my GT aligned today and thought it would be useful for others to know of this shop in Springfield MA (Grez Automotive), as the owner/alignment tech. was friendly knowledgeable and most important had the right type of alignment machine.

So, I wonder whether it would be worthwhile to gather such information and make it available to the 928 community. Logically gathering 928 repair shop information could be done at the same time.

It won't be feasible unless:
1. It isn't being done elsewhere that I don't know about
2. The 928 community supports it.

My thinking is simply, the shop name, address, phone number and email address with a check list of what they do for 928s, ie: alignments, general, A/C, electrical, etc. Probably most important the contributor of the information should be mentioned in case someone wants to talk with them first.

If the 928 community would support generation of this information, I will set up a web form to gather it and would make it available to anyone.

Of course if someone else would rather do it, I would be happy to support them as well

Carl at 928 Motorsports had a list for SCer installs at one time. Don't know if he still has it, but it might be a good start.

Default Zen at Angus Imports - South Salem NY

He's a small independent repair shop who owns an 86S. Not cheap but scrupulously honest. I brought my car (89S4) to him after Leonard Laub recommended him, before he owned his 86. I needed some front end work and casually mentioned to him that the car can't be off it's wheels before the alignment. He told me I was a typical know-it-all internet geek. When I brought the car back in 500 miles with the front tires all chewed up his only comment was "leave the car and come back in two days". When I returned the car had new tires (all around!) and I've never had a problem since - either with him or any of the work he's done.

He's done my timing belt service, replaced front control arms, replaced trans oil cooler lines, motor mounts, GTS oil pan baffle, PS lines, etc.

South Salem is in Northern Westchester - about 50 miles from NYC.

Zen can be reached at 914 763 3628

As an added benefit he always has some cool cars in the lot - misc Daytona's and other Ferrari's, XKE's and other English stuff.

Kurts Automotive
W. Bridgewater, MA

Alignments Only as far as I know.

He's done a bunch of 928's and quickly pulled up the right specs and knew exactly where to go to make the adjustments. Had my S4 dialed in within an hour. A bit pricey at $150.00 but IMHO well worth it.

Thanks, but I am not looking for the information here. It will be too much effort to pull it out and put it in a document. I was just asking whether 928ers would be interested and willing to fill out a web form to gather such information, and whether they thought it would be useful.

I thought we had a list like this already? Might be very out dated, but I thought one of the 928 web sites had a list broken down by state.

I think it's a great idea.

Hacker-
You're thinking of the Road-side assistance list. An owner-helping-other-owners list. It did not list repair facilities (unless the owner had a shop himself).

Nope there was indeed a website somewhere out there that detailed 928 related shops. I remember seeing it early on when I first joined rennlist. It is how I first found out about Leif Johnsons' shop in the PacNW.

Stan - I'm too poor too use a shop, but I think your idea is great. However, the virtue of having it on Rennlist as a thread is that updates are easy and likely to be frequent. A separate list or site is problematic simply in terms of updates. But however it works out, fine idea!

Doesn't look like it's being kept up based on the California listings:

Stan; we should be doing our own alignments around here. I do mine and a few others myself but will get some slip plates and more equipment sometime soon.
All the info is on Earl's site, and a string toe check is very easy. I have gotten bad alignments from reputable shops, and have since done my own on the 928.
Maybe another tech session at Tass's??????

I do most of my own work as well, and already know most shops I would go to for work I wanted done. But to get an alignment, it was a matter of calling around to find someone with a machine locally, and the shop I encountered (that I had used in the past) was very friendly, so I thought experiences like that could be shared.

Adding information to a forum about shops really isn't conducive to someone finding a local shop. They would likely have to scan many posts before finding a shop that was close to them and even then, they might not find the closest or best shop for what they need.

Worst case scenario is that I waste my time, but I suspect most people will be confident I will be around and maintaining it indefinitely as I am a 19 year 928 owner, multiple 928 owner, 928 OC president and have a bit of computer knowledge

Like the alignment, knowing of a shop that will work with a freon based A/C system would be useful.
