I am the first to admit I ...."drive like an old lady " on the street. Spend any time at all on a race track and suddenly what difference does it make if you drive 65 or 85 MPH on the street ? The only "thrill" in going over 100 MPH is the RISK of getting caught and going to jail , we all KNOW these cars are solid as a rock at 120 mph. Sure you are more aware and alert when speeding but that is just to avoid being ticketed and not because the driving experience is so intense. When I drive long distance like Lubbock to Anaheim 1,100 miles or so I push the limit a bit because 10 miles per hour on a 15-16 hr drive makes a big difference . However I make up more time by limiting the stops than by "speeding". Now motoring around turn 8 at Big Willow in 4th at 6,000 rpm plus THAT IS FUN !! and the MPG SUCKS.

.....don't we in the US pay $x.xx/gal for 9/10 of a gallon? What's the real cost per gallon?

No, we pay $X.XX9 per gallon. Maybe you were thinking of 1 imperial gallons which = 1.2 US gallons or 0.8333 US gallon = 1 Imperial gallon

Bulletin, ENJOY IT NOW WHILE YOU CAN! A report was released yesterday that gas price per gallon in the USA will exceed $7.00 per gallon by the year 2010 (1.5 years). This made the news last night.

My neighbor just sold his alternative energy company to a higher power and told me he is now going to be working to develop Butanol. He feels this is the only option for cars as a gas alternative. Fun times ahead! Stay tuned.

I spend 800-900$ a month on gas, but then I get to enjoy my shark every day to work.

Sounds like a lot, but unlike the guys driving newer Mercedes, BMW's, etc... I don't have to worry about depriciation, so it's not a bad deal after all.

My daily driver is my work truck, a 2008 Toyota Tundra, it gets 15 mpg in the city, I have two other employees driving a GMC Sierra 2500 and a Chevy Silverado 2500. We spend at least $1500 a month at the Exxon alter.
So when I get in my 928 which gets over 20mpg on the highway (when I behave) It feels like gas is cheap!

PS: I just decided this morning to raise my rates to cover the fuel costs

Ya gas is stupid expensive right now.....& I just sold my 4 cylinder daily driver and my new DD is yet another gas guzzling V8...... So it costs me some extra $$$$.....but the smile factor for all those miles is worth it!!! I figure I get about 7-8mpg at the track....so anything better than that is a bonus!!

I can get up to 22 mpg between Los Angeles and Sunnyvale if I try, and if I stay below 100 mph and if I drive with the proverbial "egg" between my foot and the pedal. I know because I actually did it once. One tank of gas between Sunnyvale and downtown LA. Of course by the time I got to LA I was a bit disoriented and irritated and every other way -tated, and generall pissed off, but I got 22 mpg. S**t with that!! Pedal to the metal and I keep my sanity. Its a no brainer. Like was already said, the car was not created to compete with econo-boring-mobiles. Shall we abandon jet aircraft in favor of a return to prop planes? I remember 9 hour flights to Honolulu !! I don't need any more of those. And Jim, I am more alert at over triple digit speeds because I want to stay alive and I'm more fearful of the airheads in the other cars than bears. But that's me. So to answer the original question: Smoke 'em if you got 'em !!

Funny you should post this as I was thinking about this the other night while blasting down HWY. 1. Since I dont use the 928 as a daily driver I drive it as I always do. Flat out and fun. However I do TRY to drive less W/ the go pedal in the Pathfinder to conserve gas. Funny how we here in the Bay Area pay the most for gas and we have a Cheveron refinery plant on the other side of the San Rafael/Richmond bridge. Go figure.

I put $87.00 in last weekend. It's my DD, but I only have a 5 mile commute each way. I'm trying to cut back to a tank every other week so I don't drive it much on weekends.
