As Im000 says, anything that grabs the outside of the relay(including the tool mentioned by DonT) can will probably just pull the can off of the relay unless the relay contacts are in essentially new condition and lubricated. Bad idea.
IMHO this is the best relay removal tool, and it absolutely requires disconnecting the battery ground strap before use -- it gets under the base of the relay and allows you to pry it out without damage:

Porsche made a tool for this - interesting that there is one on eBay right now... but its ~$60 Vs using paint can openers & upholstry tool similar to Daves & they actually work well enough...

The Porsche one has the advantage you can (maybe) get between densly packed relays - but it won't work on the double-wides anyway - and I don't think it will work on some of the very tallest relays (e.g. stock intermittent).

One can fabricate a relay puller from junk in the tool box in a few min: this is from a socket wrench bar ..... and permits a secure grip on the relays base to allow a straight pull from the CE.
