looks like he was not the only one considering dumping the old u boat.

2 days after my last AX in Nov my steering rack started bleeding in a big way. not the end of the world, but it was undrivable and was the butt of many holiday visitor jokes (can't drive it still? thought that was the story last holiday too, etc, etc)

finally got one from 928 intl after a 3 week wait, took another 3 weeks for my guy to slap it in. thought life was going to be good - until the right rear cyl hydrolocked two days later. oops.

not sure what was worse, covered in fuel/anti freeze mix or realizing what was next.

pulled the heads, found signs of detonation in 6 of 8 cyls, a nice nick on top of cyl that was leaking. guess it blew the gasket in the weak spot caused by the nick. also noticed pistons were twisting a bit in the bores. and a the water pump was ready to fail.

so - new stronger custom rods, a block resurface, working the heads a bit to cure the detonation, waterpump, gaskets, oil, etc... and she'll be better than before with a 6800rpm limit instead of a 6300rpm limit, maybe a bit more hair. should be good for a hoot or two.

gotta admit - this old boat has got more lives than most cats. I suspect most would have just parted it out on the 1st overhaul, this is the 3rd go round.

on the other hand, everything works flawlessly, and it does run like stink when it's on it's game. hated to see it go that way after all the work it took to get it that well modified and sorted.

guess it'll be worth it, again - and definately time for a drink...

For those that have lost track of Eddy here, check out his latest build thread in the 9-one-one forum. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. Which no one did, but I'm putting it out there anyway.

Bump, for the hell of it.

What's everyone been doing?

Here, getting some local cars ready for 3rd Coast, mine included. Tossed an A/C belt tonight so should finally replace all my belts. It's kinda due, only been 5 years and I've not changed one since.

Cleaned off brakes (F&R) tonight in prep for x-drilled rotors/pads (from 928sRus) to be installed tomorrow, . Is there a legal or ethical way to clone SeanR?

Wife: Exactly where do u think u r installing that front shock?

Me: In the rear end of course.

Wife: lol. u wuld have a better chance installing it in the front.

Me: It takes longer in the front.

Wife: i've seen ur shock. knowing my limits when sober u can only do a front install.

Shark shock party at my house tonight. Nobody is invited, however.
Had to bring this post to the top.

Are you going to make an appearance at 3rd coast in 2 weeks? We will only be 34 miles from you.

There might be legal problems with that. SeanR does not like to get dirty.

It's amazing, just read through this and see how many of Sterlings posts are gone, reading posts from members that have come and gone, one who passed away not that long ago.

Think it's time to keep it going, so those that are here now, can post, and remember those that are no long here.

That and Sterling is a *****. That comment resulted in almost 100 pages that were deleted a few years ago.

Had a busy week on my S4...

-Replaced leaking radiator with a rebuilt one that originally had 100k fewer miles than mine, new rad cap, fresh coolant
-Replaced leaking power steering cooler line, reservoir, reservoir return line, new fluid
-Repaired second cooling fan function
-Changed engine oil & filter
-Changed tranny fluid & filter
-Replaced wiper motor with one that only had 80k miles on it

It's back to being legal & reliable again... if only I had the finances to attend the 3rd coast event!
