I was similarly surprised at the lack of patrol cars or radar traps I saw out on my way down and back from MA. I am wondering if the fuel cost is impacting their revenue raising efforts.

John (soontobered) and I made good time on the way back, no tickets for the second year running. We drove straight through, 1089 miles, 15 hours and change. His V-1 saved us at least twice, maybe three times. His car ran much better on the way home, only having to pull over and re-start about three or four times the whole way back. His gas mileage increased to 16-17 as well. We would have made better time but I think we had to stop one more time for fuel (four times total I think), and we stopped for breakfast and lunch.

Talk about inflation. Or did Carl double the 45mph limit.
A couple years ago it was $75 no matter what speed you were going.

Default busted

I managed to ring up a ticket on the way home...
After driving a blue-streak for almost 12 hours straight through 10 states hitting deep into triple digits way more than i should admit to and a lot of cruising at 90-100, i finally got tagged in Rhode Island by a state trooper hiding under an overpass w/ instant-on Ka.
So after crossing 9 real states, I get busted in the smallest state in the union that has a total of about 6 roads, and you cross the entire state in less than 45 minutes.... Wasn't paying quite the attention after all those care-free and mostly cop-free miles, not even going that fast here, and got rung up at 82 in a 65 (& reduced to 76) for $194.... was only about an hour from our destination at Cape Cod where we were picking up our daughter. damn. most the speed traps we had seen all day were obvious, but this guy was good; tucked in deep up under the overpass completely hidden until the last second, keeping his gun off until I was right upon him, picked me off in some light traffic that was all cruising at around 80. right after i knew i got painted i was passing an exit and still a hundred of so yards in front of him with some other cars around me, so i swerved to fast to exit w/ no signal hoping he wouldn't see me, was going to screw on him but he saw my move, followed on the exit ramp and saw which way i went, so i just pulled over and waited. he came up and said, "why did you take the exit?", and told him i thought it would be safer than the breakdown lane on the highway, and he bought it, at least he seemed to and didn't ring me up for trying to be evasive. oh well, it was all worth it, great trip. the return trip of over 900 miles in about 13 hours including stops, thats the price you pay to play. had been ticket free for a while, hope my good karma returns soon.

Would be nice if there was a go fast waver we could buy for say $150.00 that would allow us to drive triple digits speeds, but not for everybody cars would need to be certified for this.

I think I would offer quite a bit more for a clear pass, at least once The lack of any hint at frost heaves in the southern roads is quite appealing. Imagine cutting the travel time in half...

I'm not worried about what type of cars that would be allowed to do this, but what kind of drivers?

A honda civic in the right hands is 100 times safter at 120mph than a 928 with an amature behind the wheel.
