How to remove the rear hatch release ****
I am in the process of putting new carpet in..
I cannot figure out how to remove the rear hatch release ****.
I tried pulling it.. doesn't budge. I noticed that if I pull up on the **** that there is a hole through the shaft so I figured that it screws off.. So I put a nail through it to hold it and still no go. I don't want to end up breaking it.
Any ideas?

you might have to break it to get it off, but put a stronger piece through the hole in the shaft like a small drill bit,and twist the **** it should unscrew after you remove the **** make sure the shaft isnt deformed use a file to make the shaft round again

Can't you lift the **** to expose some of the shaft, use some needle nose pliers to keep the shaft from spinning, and then unscrew the **** from the switch?

The other side came off no problem.. ahh well, really didn't need one on the passenger side anyway.

Passenger side button was deleted on GTS's, if that helps?

NOTE if the pull **** is stuck,
then it probably got wet and the water went past the **** insert,
my suggestion .
Pry the insert out then add a few drops of PB blaster,
this will soak the threads and eventually the **** will come off .

Timely refresh of this thread. I had forgotten how to remove the ****.
The hatch release on my '89 has stopped working. Time to delete it.

Ken the switch is fixable IE you can take it apart ,
and also you should check the fuses before you scuttle the system.
NOTE what happens to the switch is a small phenolic black washer splits,
this then lets the switch pulling rod ground out and blow the fuse every time you pull it.
I took carpet thread and wrapped it around the shaft then super glued the thread bundle this isolated the trigger portion,
the switch has worked perfectly

Pretty sure the park fuse has blown...but it's easier to delete the system than find a 1-amp ATC fuse

The beauty of being able to search the archives. I'd be willing to bet that there is not a single 928-related issue that has not been asked and answered on this forum over the past 20+ years of its existence.

Ken I`m not sure if you know this but, a bad pull switch will blow the lock motor fuse not the park fuse.
The Park fuse blowing means a transistor on the circuit board inside the motor pack has to be replaced .
IIRC Borland did a thread detailing the part number and the replacement .
I fixed two motor park systems with that info.
