Here's a pic of a new OE nut from probably the same supplier, not sure it helps much but as best as I can see the threads look "normal"
Don't know what the white stuff is - do nuts go mouldy?

Nicely done Jon. The thread as shown has a flat spot at the peak of the thread pitch. That's just what mine look like, including the casting dust. These go on the bolt, and have quite a bit of side-play, where my original ones that have a sharp bevel with no flat spot have much less side-play.
I've enhances the photos from Jon slightly. Look carefully at the dark arc, that is the area which is supposed to come to a spiral point as the thread goes round. It appears that the first cut or casting of the nut was oversize, and the thread cut didn't fully take. Hence my problem with side-play. If anyone has a rod bolt handy, run it down the bolt and you'll see the problem right away.
The ribs are shown as well. Maybe I'll go with ARP nuts and be done with it. I'm not using those OEM ones that's for sure.

Doc, Have you mic'ed and compared the ID's of the new nuts and the old ones? If "the first cut or casting of the nut was oversize" it should show up.
Don't laugh too hard but it might worth a call to Porsche national to talk to an engineer. I'm guessing there's nothing that makes the design of rod nuts for a 928 uniquely different from all others.
