Default Moving to New Mexico

Well, my next career path is taking us back to Alamogordo, NM. We just finished watching the movers hauling our stuff to storage so we can enjoy some time off prior to finding a new home starting my new job.

The game plan is to head out this weekend and drive over to NM, that is if I can get everything done here in Vegas. Once we arrive at our friends house and drop off the dogs, we'll fly out to NC to visit family and relax

This will be rocket's first road trip since I picked her up from the PO in San Diego almost 4 years ago. I just tuned her and the wifes car up for the 700 mile drive.

It's going to be rough not having Tony and Bill close by, but Tony assures me that he's just a phone call away

More to come as we start this adventure!

Brother Nunn!
I would strongly suggest that you drive from Vegas to Almogordo ( used top chase beer and drink women there when I went to UTEP) via Sedona....you can hook back up thru to NM no worries- excellent road (89A) outside of Flag that goes thru Sedona, then take it to Cottonwood, on to Prescott- You will go thru a place called Jerome- the trip is outstanding, lots of gooooooooood driving- you can make a day of it- once you get to Prescott you can hook over and catch I 17 back to Flagg and head out....

Can't support panchosouth more heartily. Oak Creek canyon, Sedona, "previous" ghost town of Jerome, all most interesting and neat roads. Part of that "retirement" joy is having time to take the scenic route instead of the fastest route!!! Lived in AZ 4 years, 45 years ago, now have time to enjoy the trip when I visit there - or any other place. Congrats again, and THANK YOU Darien for your service.

Good luck Darien. At least the climate will be similar to what you're used to. When I first saw your post I misread it. I thought it said you were moving to Mexico. That would have been a whole other sort of adventure for sure.

Good luck. You won't need it though because the shark is going to run and drive like a dream

Darien,
Good luck, I have been there for work and will probably go in the fall. Cloudcroft is nice, Alamogordo well, Memories has good food. Maybe we can get together next time I'm out.

I owned a condo in Ruidoso for many years prior to my divorce, and used to fly to El Paso, rent a car and drive to Ruidoso via Alamogordo and back. There is a GREAT hamburger place in Alamogordo: the Hi-De-Ho. It's an old pre-Sonic carhop place. MMMMM! The green chili Tiger burger is enough for two people.
Anyway, I was driving back down the mountain in a rented Sterling, was running late for my flight, had the speedometer pegged and made it to Alamogordo in 25 minutes from Ruidoso. I made my flight.
Long story short: Some great high speed roads for the 928 in the area. Just sorry I never made it to the area in my 928

...talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. At least the scenery is better. Best of luck and congrats!

Darien: Didn't you buy an '88? It's not in your sig. What's the new job? One of these days, I'm going to live in the condo I have SF and we'll have to do some food and drink out there.

We are going to visit Sedona and Oak Creek next month.

Glenn, definately look me up if you drop in.

I was stationed there for 10 years working on the F-117A, I'm now going back to give Engineering and Tech support on the F-22A.

I'll have to look at routes going back, but with the wife and kid in tow, we'll probably go via direct.

Darien,

The Texas group is only 685 miles away, so we'll expect you for the OCIC and our 3rd Coast gatherings. We MIGHT excuse you from the monthly GTG's for breakfast and BS sessions though.

Seriously, give us a call when your in town. Hell, it might be a good excuse for us to do a road trip to you.

Sounds great Jim...Tony and I have already discussed a rendezvous for the next OCIC

I'll have the laptop with me during the trip, we're either heading out tomorrow evening or Sun AM.

Hopefully next week, I'll let the cat out of the bag and show off my "retrement gift"
