> Or ask Why not throw a blower on a stroker? and rule the world

maybe because somewhere beyond 500 ft-lbs it tends to just become more wheelspin?

I just turned the 89' up to over 600rwhp...why? Because it can still hook up in third! (it's an auto w/lsd and 295/35-18's)

Dave,
Is the 89 a stroked motor? Are you using a Vortex V1-T? At what boost level are you getting 600 hp. Isn't SLT about 4400 ft?
When are you bringing that bad boy over to Wendover for us to drool over?

Not if you have a very sophisticated traction control

Hey Tim, 5.0 w/cometic head gaskets and a V7Ysi @ 15-16psi. Monster intercooler, stock computer, many external coolers, 5 cooling fans and very little directional stability at low speeds. The V1-t maxed out at about 10psi at this altitude, around 500rwhp.

This car is daily driven, has one of my crossovers w/cats and a stock cat back. There is more there, just don't really need it yet. The look on a 997 TT's face when he gets his *** handed to him by a 20yo 928? Priceless!

putting a little muscle under the hood on one of these is a hoot for sure - no matter how you do it

course, we all know NA is the preferred way to do it, hahahaha

well, it IS friday, my friggn tranny is still out and so a little fun poking is in order.... and you did ask for it, kinda

so why wait? still prepping for the commute home? heck, we can pass smog and run on the track all day with a "normal" cooling system, no extra stuff to maintain, easily blow the doors off most street legal stuff - and NOT do an Exxon Valdez impersonation in the process

in fact, us stroker guys don't even need a thread dedicated to keeping our sharks running... prolly should rename that "Official Supercharger Thread" to the "Who can use the most Home Depot Parts on a Shark" thread... hahahaha

I would gladly pay $$$ for real traction control - on top of the M220 I already have.

(Racelogic traction control)

We are in the process of rebuilding the 88' stroker from Wa/Tx. It will be basically new, only reuseing the crank and heads. Pick your stroker builder carefully. We are waiting for the block, should be on the road about the same time as yours...lol

BTW, two years on the same supercharger belt. Just changed it to a smaller pulley and renewed the belt at the same time. The customer wanted to use the A/C in 105 temps, under boost. It is only noisy when on boost, a little whine at idle that goes away by 1krpm. I can't tell if the noise on boost is the tires giving up their life or what...

You don't need that much power to beat those 997TT's

I am not going to do it, but just out of curiosity, how much $$$ we talkin' for the stroker? Just engine work, not the brakes and such.

less than rebuilding a motor for FI and then buying a blower?
depends on MY and how much you want a totally fresh motor... do a search on stroker costs here and you'll get a huge range.

If you could find some used 968 pistons and a devek stroker crank for near $3k, the rebuild would only cost modifying the block by boring it and doing the silicon paste thing. and doing basically a stock rebuild. the Block work and balancing of the rotating assembly might cost near $1500. So, right there, thats a min of near $5k, plus the cost of a normal rebuild, you would have a stroker. add the other stuff you might need as well, like injectors, or tuning and the cost goes up. (not to mention head work, etc)

Done right, you're talking an easy $10k in parts, and probably a similar amount in labor.

The custom stroker crank alone will run you $3k to $5k, then you'll probably need custom rods, Custom pistons, bigger valves, reground cams, port and polish the head, bore and re-surface the block, lower the oil pan, add a windage tray, etc. And now you're ready to start spending money/time balancing the entire assembly, putting it all together, strapping it to a dyno and shark-tuning it to use the optimal levels of fuel/air/timing...
