Default Loud pop-engine died-no start-'87 S4 w/SC

Out and about, accelerating and making boost (Murph kit - stage 2), loud POP, engine dies.

Engine cranks, but will will not restart. Good opportunity to use AAA card for free tow home.

Appears all belts (including SC belt) are intact.

Peeked inside drivers side timing belt cover - the timing belt (the portion of it I can see) appears intact.

Checked oil dipstick - oil only - NO coolant.

Any ideas?

I'll investigate further tomorrow.

Don,

Check the boot to MAf area. It may have pushed off. I popped mine off the first time under boost, and that loud POP scared the crap out of me. It still ran, and I was able to drive it home though....

Ditto on the boot Don. When it pops it sounds awful and may appear to still be seated, look closely.

It still should run...maybe the MAF popped off with the boot, so it's the lower clamp to the throttle that gave.

Thanks everybody for the advice.

I'll reseat and tighten MAF clamp to the throttle. & reseat the boot to the MAF.

I'll post the results.

Agree with the MAF to lower boot, but don't forget to check your spark plugs too.

The only times I've heard a BOOM were:

1) a friend blew a valve clean out of his tailpipe in a modded beetle and
2) my 85's intake exploded from leaky injectors

Kevin -

That really wasn't necessary.

Thrust bearing checked less than 1,000 miles ago.

From the 1st post -
"Peeked inside drivers side timing belt cover - the timing belt
(the portion of it I can see) appears intact."

That reminds me - Don't forget to check your transmission,
you've been missing the shift to 2nd lately.

I believe you need to ask your wife first.

Latest -

Just for the hell of it, I tried to start the shark. It fired right up!

Put the car in the garage. Back to it later.
