the number 2 bearing shows about .038mm with plasti gauge. Some one posted earlier that the Spec is .02-.07.
Pics later

number 6 next.
(it now checks at the same .038mm)

actaully both are just under .038 as viewed on the strip.

I figured these were the only two i was going to check as they seem to be the most trouble some as far as failure and wear.

Pretty happy for a 164063 mile motor!! and the abuse it has seen the last 4 years

I'll add pics of the bearing shells later

Not around here. Now that I think about it NAPA might. People have mentioned PepBoys as a place to get it. We do not have any up here.

EDIT - I just checked autozones web site, they claim to have it in stock. I guess it shouldn't suprise me the ***** at the store had no idea what I was talking about.

It comes in three colors. Does it matter which one I buy?

If it helps Hacker, I believe you can get string cheese to accomplish the same thing

I picture it going something like this:

Hacker: Do you carry Plastigauge?
Autozone employee: What year make and model car is it for?
Hacker: I want it for when I assemble my Porsche 944 engine.
Autozone employee after looking at 944 parts on computer: We don't carry it.

I went to AutoZone to get some and three guys gathered behind the counter and after explaining what it was and them asking repeatedly what car is it for etc. they came to the sincere consensus that they don't carry anything like that...just then a girl that works there walked by and asked me which color do I want...I said green.... she said be right back... the three stooges went back to dusting the shelves and rearranging wiper blades....

That's funny. People are so programmed to follow a process that they have lost the ability to "think." I think I'll say it's for my custom Chevy...

Are the rod bolts one use only? I know this is a fact with the 911 but the928 factory workshop manual doesn't say this. Or have I overlooked it?

It's fun going to buy a "generic" part for the 928 that I know is standard on a Ford or Chevy. I tell them the make / model / year of the 928 then say I need a Ford part. Makes their head spin.
