Default CA Smog check- A data point

Just got back from the biennial smog check for the GT. The shop owner was very cool, he had a Bitter SC in the bay (looks like a Ferrari 308 GT4) and was surprised that I knew what it was. So we got off on a good foot.

Beforehand I went out and drove up and down the 405 in 4th gear for about 20 minutes to get everything nice and toasty. The car has the original factory cat, a new O2 sensor, and mostly new everything under the hood. Bone stock. The guy took a pretty thorough look under the hood, but never got down and looked underneath.

According to the inspection report, apparently my car is in the 'high emitter' profile......

Just as a data point, here are the numbers.

Default 2 year update

No change to the car other than having changed the oil twice, the 2/6 rod bearings, and plating all the hardware. Somewhat cleaner than 2 years ago:

I'd actually be a little worried to see CO numbers that low. Sounds a bit too lean. Rings/compression looks to be good, though.

Interesting.. Your numbers changed quite a bit in 2 years...I'm gonna print it out for comparison... I have to take my 928 in next week for its 2 year smog. It would be interesting to compare. Mine is stock.....

Technically speaking, those are quite high from what I have seen on other reports. Anyone else have their data?

Mine also got worse in terms of HC and NO over the two year interim from the previous test and I barely passed last time. Actually I falied and the guy let me go out an bomb the freeway for a while then retest and I just passed. I think my cats are going south finally.

FWIW, there seem to be differences between test stations and almost from day to day at the same stations. Might be the angle of the sun or phase of the moon.

Also-- The small variations in after-cat readings are pretty close to worthless for diagnosing a motor condition, at least until something overwhelms the cats.

Big change in 15 mph rpm, 1768 first time and 2169 the second, not much off the 25 mph rpm of 2303.

My last three or four results are very similar to yours.

Default Another 2 years

2 more years, another biennial smog. Made an appointment, drove the car 20 miles on the freeway, got everything nice and warm, pulled right onto the rollers, never turned the engine off. The car is bone stock so no worries about visual tests.

Did only a visual on the gas cap, they don't have the adapter for it.

Here's the current result.

And here's the whole smog history for the GT, just for comparison

Bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison, but I got the stroker smogged today. 6.5 L stroker with headers and CARB cats. Compares nicely to the getting-tired factory cats on my old GT.

Tiny bit rich at 15 mph, tiny bit lean at 25. Beforehand I went out and sharktuned at 15 and 25 mph in 2nd gear on level ground (slowest laps of the Kimberly speedway ever.....) with the NBO2 sensor disabled, then added it back infor the test.

Have I mentioned I love the ST2 and SP?

LOlz. Yes, much better. But since I have my victim hat on for this post/thread, the color clarity of the paint of the car in that picture is offensive to me. I don't see any scratches. And the fact that your stickers are clean makes me jealous.

The buried story here is you passed with headers.
