Charcoal cannister question
While putting ball joints on a friend's MY 81 to get it ready for SITM, I thought that while I had the wheels off I would do a little exploring. He got this car off ebay last year and I have been smoothing out some of its rough edges. I love automotive archeology; never know what you will find. The charcoal cannister was where it should be and looked OK until I removed it. Looks loke it did a little tire testing. Can I just loop a hose thru where the cannister used to be and just by pass it?

Wow!
I had my cannister out today to replace the vent line the mice ate through on the PO. My cannister is intact but to replace the vent line is a PITA.
Based on your picture, the cannister is not reusable. Is the vent line intact?

Adam; I have the front wheels off while doing the MM job. I expected to find the cannister inside the right wheel arch(?) but see nothing of the sort. Where is it located? Do I have to remove any of the wheel arch lining to get to it? Thanks....

Hi Michael,
Yes, you need to remove the inner fender lining (plastic) on the passenger side. The cannister is tucked up in the fender opening at the 11 o'clock position and held in place by a strap clamp. Check you hoses - I found one that was chewed through by mice a long time ago.
Hope this helps!
