On the car that Sean worked on there was no debris in the pan. All the sheared parts were in the piston area.

Edit: FWIW, the pan was free of debris (besides plunger). Also, for my untrained eye, things looked pretty clean with the filter off (I have since put a new one on).

Thanks Steve. Is this okay to do with the trans still on the car? Do you know how many bolts hold the VB and plate? Before I do that, are there any special tools I need to bring it down/reinstall it?That thing looks like the surface of the Death Star. Thanks. Michael

Remove the valve body first, aluminum piece front of car 15/ 10mm bolts, next remove the rear valve body separator plate bolts and linkage spring bolt, which will expose B2 band and piston. Be aware of a small aliment pin under the separator plate. Can be done with the transmission installed in the car.

Thanks Steve. Sorry to bother you on your long weekend. So, I remove the front cassette/Valve body. Will the rear body separator bolts and linkage spring bolt be apparent/obvious once I get the valve body off? When you say be aware of the "aliment" (alignment?) pin, do you mean be careful removing the plate not to break it or is it not attached and run a risk of falling? Finally, I put a new filter on. Will that need to come off? Thanks again. Michael

It will be apparent/obvious after you remove the pan, don’t lose aliment pin, some times it stays in the case, that’s ok. Check the B2 band for any cracks.

Thanks Steve Do you mean it will be apparent when I remove the valve body or the pan (you said pan)? If it is the pan, thus far, it is not apparent. Maybe I can post pictures for some visual guidance. Thanks.

Thank you Steve C. and Tails for very valuable information. Pictures below with a few questions.
Okay, I removed the valve body and lower cover/intermediate plate and was able to remove the B2 Piston and inspect the B2 Band. The piston was not broken nor was the O-ring fractured. The B2 Band looked non-discolored and not cracked (pic below). The thrust pin was not broken but I still don't know what that pin I found in the pan is from (pic below). I also have a loose rectangular piece of plastic (pic below) that I am not sure if it is broken or where it goes exactly. I also replaced the K1 Piston as a precaution.
I have not yet put the parts back on because I want to know what else to check. In summary, no metal shavings in pan, good B2 Piston, clean and non-cracked B2 Band, and this WTF? pin in the pan. Please advise and thank you in advance. Michael

That pin is the other, B2 apply pin, located in the reaction valve, opposite side of B2 piston, and B2 band is broken. Remove the band cradle, plastic piece, grab and pull it out and look at the band, transmission must be remove to replace band.

Ouch, not so simple a fix as the B2. Please keep us updated with pictures.
