Default Turn Signal Switch Issue

I looked in the archives and couldn't seem to find anything directly related to this.

My 1993 GTS turn signal switch is not working properly.

It will stay down for the left turn signal, but will not cancel after the turn. It will not stay up in the right turn mode. Something seems FUBAR'd up inside. Turn signals work with no issue as if doing a momentary flash for lane change, so it is a mechanical thing. I tried yanking this thing around in every position to get it fix itself. BTW, Hi Beam flash and Hi Beam on work fine which is part of the same stalk.

Has anyone dissected one of these? It's not like the older cars as this has more functions and it designed differently. Could it be the inner ring dealio thats located in the middle of the switch that the column shaft goes through?

Help...I can't imagine what it would cost for a replacement!

you may have to take the wheel off to fix this there should be a little piece of plastic that holds the stalk in its selected position this can sometimes either wear out or fracture, and its inside the switch handle. Of course that means removing the airbag.
Is it possible that something could have dropped into the gap between the wheel and the steering column

Anything is possible, but there is a rubber boot on the later cars surrounding the stalks. Removing the airbag is a snap...have done it several times. I can have the switch out in about 20 minutes. I am more interested over the procedure for opening this thing up. However, I am not sure this is designed the way you say. Looking for someone who has been inside these things. Thanks.

Keith,
I had the same problem and messed about with trying to fix it - in the end I bought a new switch combination.

Search for a write up by Alan on repair of the switch - specifically I think he had this exact problem and rebuilt his.

you have to remove rivets to take the switch apart and then use long screws to refit the switch back together

Yeah, and a bunch of small parts and springs came jumping out if you open it up. I tried this and haven't a clue how to get it all back together.

Good news is the combo switch is inexpensive and easy to come up with; a GTS uses the same unit as other cars of same vintage (964, 968); you just have to detach and move the trip computer lever onto the replacement switch.

It is possible to fix - but you probably will need some small replacement parts and a lot of patience... new ones (GTS) are indeed $$$

Thank you Gentleman. There was no snap or sound...just stop functioning properly.

Tom, I'd be interested in knowing what you mean when you say you
just have to detach and move the trip computer lever onto the replacement switch.
Alan..thanks, I may try to tackle this if I can't find a reasonable replacement.
