Default Tensioner bolt access

Ok, I searched the archives but didn't find what I was looking for. I checked my TB tension this weekend and it needs to be tightened slightly. Two questions:

1. What size wrench is the tensioner lock nut and adjuster screw (are they both the same) and
2. How do you get to it the nut and bolt to adjust? Seems like from underneath is the only way but ?? It looks like I will have to cut off a wrench to get the turning space required. Any unique tools I can buy for the job and save a modification to one of my wrenches?

Thanks in advance.

17mm, you should be able to get 2 wrenches up there. It is tight, but no need to cut any wrenches.

open ended 17mm or box end, will fit over both from underneath. loosen the lock nut, tighten the main nut by 1/4 turn and see what happens. (1/2 turn if you are sure its loose)

then, get a hold of a tensioner tool and check as soon as possible.

or you can use my cheapo technique and use a allen wrench through a peak hole in the cover to check ball park tension

Hi aaron3, a few questions:
what year car?
how did you check the tension?
was the engine cold and at T/O?
Be VERY careful just turning that adjuster, as this is a quick way to bend the tensioner pulley when the engine heats up as it will expand and the belt won't...!

my 928 cents, good luck

PS: I use a speed wrench
