Default Loop Carpet Set

I've searched carpet threads and came up with nothing.
Does anyone sell loop carpet sets?
How about a decent used carpet set?

The beater has a nice, new set that I'm putting into my pet project car and I'd be OK with a used set for the beater.

PM with info, please.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Red,

Loop is just what it says; the carpet is looped at the top. A lot of commerical carpet is like that and berbers are like that - only with large loops. Loop generally cleans well and stands up to hard use. Cleaning capability is also dependent upon fiber material, though. Wool is the best, but in my experience, it's darn hard to keep a drink upright in the shark, so I won't opt for wool

Stock carpet, called "sliverknit" is a "pile" carpet, meaning it's cut at the top, like a "plush". I'm not goping to keep the '78 stock, so I want something serviceable. I like to go to the beach often and need to be able to get all of the sand up when I'm done.

I really like the old Volkswagon carpet. Maybe I can find yardage and have it custom made; patterned from the set I already have.

Anyway, there you go.

Jim,

I don't see any loops at Rob's shop. Am I missing them?

I see you live in VA. Neat. I'll be in VA Beach next week. Any Shark events then?

Only cut loops. I assumed you were looking for a more economical solution. I read it is wash-n-wear you are after. Maybe you should contact Rob anyway. Even though he doesn't list it, he may be able to source it for you. I think he had close loop pile in his 928, don't know if he still does. Nice guy too.

VA GTGs? They happen from time to time in Nr VA. The group in Richmond is pretty small, meaning 2 or 3 (on RL). GeorgeM is in VA Beach. I would like to be in VA Beach...

Thanks for the good advice. I'll contact Rob - he has a great reputation with the RL's.

Hello! Looked through the links I had. Most had the silverknit. 928leathershop had mention of another fabrics they sold. Perhaps one of the vendors could give some additional advice.

"Our carpet kits are made from only the finest German Sliverknit, German Velour, English Wilton Wool or domestic materials by one of the nations leading Porsche carpet trim shops. All carpet sets are made to order and shipped from the west coast. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

Sliverknit is the thickest, but German Velour and Wilton Wool have a denser weave.
The Wilton has the thickest backing, followed by the German Velour. The Sliverknit has very little backing and is very pliable.
If you hold Sliverknit up to the light, you can see through it.
They are all soft to the touch. The German velour and Wilton Wool have a more plush feel due to the tighter weave.
A weight experiment with a piece of carpet the same size showed the Wilton Wool and German velour weighed 1/3 more than the Sliverknit.
All of them look and feel very luxurious.

928 leather shop has a "square-weave" that I believe is a looped carpet.

loop carpet stands up to wear very well, and it's harder for dirt/stuff to get deep into the carpet - but once the shmutz works past the tops of the loops it becomes more difficult to vacuum back out.
