What handguns fit in the door handle compartment?

You MUST be an IPSC guy w/ guns like that! I have one EXACTLY like your bottom picture. Full on open gun in 38 super. I don't shoot IPSC but the guy I got it from (David Dawson) used it for his Grand Master rating. Now he builds his own stuff so he sold me the STI gun for MUCH less than I could have had it built for. Watching him shoot it is AMAZING! I have not seen Dave in YEARS though!

James, yep absolutely IPSC.
The standard gun is an STI Edge in .38 Super, the open gun is custom built on an STI 2011 frame with a Caspian slide and Lissner (made in Oz) barrel in .38 Super Comp.
Standard capacity: 20+1. I figure if the job can't be done with 21 rounds of 125 grain conicals at 1500+ feet per second, then it is time to call in an air-strike.
Here in Oz, membership in a "recognised club" and participation in a "recognised shooting sport" is required for ownership of a handgun - and self-defence (with a firearm) is frowned upon. Oh, and we are limited to 10-round magazines.
PreacherCain, if you are driving Route 1, then make every effort to see the Hurst Mansion. Be early. It is the one regret I have from my trip to the US - that we got there too late for the last tour of the day.

Steve,
I thought they confiscated all you guys guns down under! Glad to know there is still away for the serious enthusiast to still own something fun! Yea, if 21 can't git'er done, then an air strike is the order of the day for sure!
Best to you Steve! Not sure what the slide is on my open gun, but I think it is also an STI...the whole gun was one of their custom specials at the time... I mean Dawson was sponsored by them back then! They are quite amazing and REALLY, REALLY LOUD!!

Preacher Cain,
My suggestion would be that you start your trip farther North. Washington and Oregon have amazing coast roads as well. It was on the NoCal to Oregon leg that we were stopped by a herd of elk crossing the road.
You'll have a great time/drive wherever you start. Get the best car you can, and open will trump any other attribute. Bring layers of clothing. You'll remember the trip the rest of your lives.
Hearst castle is in San Simeon, north of Santa Barbara. Hard to get there in the morning if you're southbound, because the overnight places are few and far between Carmel and there. BTW, "Hearst" not "Hurst" - gold and publishing rather than shifters and grid girls.

Nothing shoots out flames like the 500 revolver with the gap from cylinder to the barrel it goes out both sides and the barrel At the indoor range EVERTHING stops until I empty the gun !!! I never bought the .454 just rented it and shot a number of rounds but it was a Taurus and often was "out for repairs" so I got the 500 when they became available from S W. The range rents them with 5 rounds most people do not fire all of them..... I usually shoot a box of them I need to get the dies and start reloading them $$$$

Jim,
We share a lot of hobbies! 928's, Whippets, and shooting! You can keep that 500 though! My wrist just can't take that abuse! Tell Mark "hi" for me and let him know his old track car is seeing new life and is a HOOT to drive!
