Default What I broke at the Track Day

My cruise control....it worked fine last time I used it months ago....but wouldn't do anything on the way to or from the DE...... Its an MY 88 so it has the "electric" vs the vacuum driven unit..... I'm gonna have to spend some time looking up cruise control failures...

And ideas on where to start?

fuse/relay? Don't know if there is one, but I assume there is.

I don't think you should have been using the cruise control at the event anyway Brian.

DE's are all about conserving MOMENTUM the cruise is great at that!!

Andrew
It looks like the stop lamps fuse #4 also runs the cruise....since my brake lights still work (or at least nobody hit me at the track day or a warning light) I'm guessing its okay....the bummer is pirtles write up is about a vac driven cruise system, not the electric one I have?

The late model cruise still relies on vacuum to pull the cable [See correction below for 88MY onward!], but I would think you would have other problems if that had failed, so, yes, look for electrical issues first. There is a CC brain.

Check the 4-way vac connector at the brake booster. One of the branches handles cruise among other things, might be as simple as reconnecting something.

When the obvious stuff does fix it, I've resoldered two cruise controls and they work fine. How-tos listed in Rennlist.

Unless I am misunderstanding you (quite possible) the cable from 1988-1995 is pulled by an electric servo not the vacuum cannister used in prior years.

I thought there was still a vacuum pull. I was told by someone who really should know that one sign of a significant vacuum leak is that the CC will no longer hold speed. So, then the vacuum pods in the wheel well no longer have anything to do with cruise? I know they don't serve the door locks, and that became all electric, but I thought cruise was still vacuum.

Thanks for the correction.

OK, I guess I found out how my misconception came about. The person that told me about the vacuum and CC owned an 87 but should have been very familiar with all MYs (that was his job). He told me this in reference to a vacuum issue I was having with my 89, so I thought it was at least all S4s. However, here is the catch:

Brian: In the WSM volume 1a, there are 3 pages starting at 27-21 regarding testing the "temposatat" mutlipin connector.

That will be the 1st thing I check tomorrow when I start messing with it..... I don't think changing my steering wheel can have done anything?

OKAY I just printed it out...pages 386 through 392 of the WSM on CD.....goes into great detail about diagosing everything..& yes I do have the electrically driven cruise.... After reviewing it man does it bring back memories of tracing down my failed fuel pump via a no start issue....

Looks like I'm in for some quality time with my trusty fluke!!!

brian didnt you just replace the turn switch? If you did is it possible that the CC didnt get hooked up or has come apart?
