I am currently working on my 74 BMW 2002 as a Vintage Rally Racer, and I got to thinking. Did Porsche ever run a 928 in a rally race (WRC or European, Baja 1000, Paris-Drakar, Monte Carlo) or has a privateer ever ran one. I know Carl at 928 Motorsports ran his on the Pikes Peak Challenge and was very successful for his first time at that venue. I would think with the 50/50 weight ratio, the suspension set up, the motors torque, and the small size of the vehicle would make it a great prospect for a competitive rally car. So...are or were there any 928 rally cars out there?

Jarett ran his 86.5 in the Newfoundland Targa last year. A six day rally over very challenging tarmac. He drove to and from the event from Toronto, ran the six day's, placed fifth in class and needed zero repairs.
An amazing feat, and a shining moment for the 928.

One would think that there would be major ground clearance issues. I have trouble getting up my driveway!

Have you ever seen the ride height on a road 959? Then on the rally 959? Adjustable ride height FTW.

Someone is running OB 928 in historic rallys in Germany I think. There is some video in Youtube IIRR.

This guy has been running his green "grunge" shark successfully in rally events back in Norway.
Now he is selling it. Looks better from behind with the twin pipes, rear wing etc, than the beaten up front..!
