imagine how much fun and how many tickets can be written w/this baby:

Carbon Motors Corporation is a new American automaker based in Atlanta, Georgia, dedicated to developing the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement patrol vehicle. Improvements in an officer’s operational effectiveness and vehicle safety will be achieved through the development of a fully integrated cockpit, coach rear doors for safer insertion/removal of suspects, and improved visibility. The vehicle will be powered by a 300hp clean diesel engine (capable of running on bio-diesel) and a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels, yielding a 0 - 60 time of 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. SELECTED FEATURES AND OPTIONS • Aluminum spaceframe body structure • 75 mph rear impact crash capability • Cockpit with fully-integrated factory fitted law enforcement equipment • Integrated emergency lights, spot lights, take down lights, and directional stick • Segment exclusive coach rear doors for safer suspect ingress and egress • Vehicle dynamic control • Anti-lock brakes • Optimized approach / departure angles and ground clearance • NIJ Level III-A (or better) ballistic protection (front doors and dash panel) • Purpose-designed seat for use with on-body equipment - Heated and ventilated seats • Heads up display • Reverse backup camera • Remote start capability • Driver specific intelligent key • 360 degree exterior surveillance capability • Automatic license plate recognition system • Video and audio surveillance of rear passenger compartment • 130hz - 350hz bass siren • Nightvision compliant interior illumination • Integrated forward looking infrared system (FLIR) • Integrated shotgun mounts • Optimized storage capability (compartment and cargo) • Integrated front and rear passenger compartment partition • Hoseable rear passenger compartment • Integrated push bumpers and PIT capability

Nothing much happens in my town, so the Resident State Trooper spends a lot of time sitting in the Church parking lot which looks over a busy intersection. Apparently, he has a camera in the car that reads your plate and almost instantly provides all pertinent data regarding the plate in question. Its a huge moneymaker for the town...

I am okay with this. I like this. You know why? Because they will all look the same. They will have the same "profile" which makes identification easier. This is a blessing in disguise.

+1 if it ever comes to pass. I can't imagine it happening though, given the sneaky attitude of some Kalifornians. Also, fwiw, it has been documented that red cars really do get more tickets. If I had a red car I would paint it some other color, or trade it.

Two things....red car, no way, never again. Sure, they look nice, but they attract attention both good, and bad, and I can do without the bad. Had one for three years, constantly pulled over, four tickets, had to go to traffic school. Sold it. Bought dark grey wagoneer. Looked like it's standing still no matter how fast you go. Had it for 12 years, drove same way, no tickets. Next, dark silver cherokee. Similar result.
Second, while it might be tempting to fight the tickets, easier to just pay them and keep track. I got suspended twice for parking tickets that I never got, and of course no suspension notification either. Both times my vehicle was towed, leaving me stranded. Now I ask one of the locals to run my license and plates every few months just to check; when I tell them the tale, they seem to understand.
Basically, the system sucks. And, it's there to generate revenue, capitalism at it's finest.
I just chalk it up to the price of driving, and go about my way.

And when you are vindicated, its a great feeling, especially because of how most (not all, Brian) the LEO act towards "us"

You can't just walk into court and demand they address your case right then and there. If that was possible, everyone would do it, and the "system" would be even more insane than it is now. Everyone must wait their turn. To get speedy relief, you can file an emergency motion/injunction to get the POs to release your vehicle. But you'd still have to wait for the court to give you a hearing date.

The DMV correctly advised you NOT to pay the ticket and to go to court. Once you get the traffic citation part figured out, you can go after the POs and/or DMV. I'd go for both. IMHO they are both liable for your damages, including compensation for the fact that this happened in front of your place of business. It's not libel or slander, because the cop apparently honestly believed that you had a suspended license. But it's definitely negligent conduct all around.

And yes, when they "impound" your car they are I believe actually required to do an "inventory" search. But that is not as wide open as it sounds. It does have limits.

Must be a North American thing; I have had my red Mustang 10+ years with 0 tickets.

If course it is slower than the 928.

Depends on whether upon normal/reasonable inspection (ie visual & smell) they can tell what the residue is... if it's tabacky then sure! If it's the wacky tabacky, then, sadly, no.

Just a matter a time before such a vehicle operates autonomous patrols, i.e. unmanned, high speed cameras scanning every license plate in sight, and issuing tickets at an alarming rate. If this vehicle doesn't get you, then certainly the red light cameras will. Not needing an officer to operate it (no pension, no medical insurance costs, sick leave, vacation pay), think of the potential revenue it could earn and also save a local government..... cause afterall it's about the $$$$$.

Law enforcement is like any other occupation, when you are at work today how many people around you can you say are top notch individuals dedicated to their profession that you are proud to be associated with, and how many are doing just enough to get by or really don't give a rat's behind about the quality of their output?

You take the worst person at your place of business, and surely there is someone comparable to that person in job performance in law enforcement. That type of LE is what gets everyone all fired up. Bad apples exist everywhere.

More Andy Taylors and fewer Barney Fifes and we'd all be happier.

I'll bet SeanTT's red car doesn't get tickets.

Once you have the citation in CA you can go to court unannounced I believe - or at least when you have received the info in the mail.
