Wait your a cop with a illegally modified car in CA, the RMB + More! lol

Hey I haven't been killed by a terrorist, therefore terrrorist don't exist.
Maybe you haven't been pulled over because your cop buddies know what you drive and recognize you?

Impounding a car for a month can destroy a persons life. When I was single and had just 1 car how hell do I get to work if the state has stolen my vehicle under a euphemismist phrase of impound?

Thats why I had suspended license violations in the past, I couldn't afford the huge *** fines I got, but had a baby I needed to feed and needed to get to work somehow, legal or not. I put food in that kids mouth and could give crap what Cali law said.

The cop was a dick by not letting this guy get his tow thingy out of the trunk. The cop treated him like he was a wife beater, showed no mercy or reason, but thats to be expected from 'them'.

Default UPDATE

I went over to the DMV over lunch to figure it out and they said I owed $20 for the reinstatement fee. I asked what the ticket was and the gal looked perplexed. She read through the record and said:

Well, you had a ticket in 2006 that was paid, so I'm not sure what happened.

Long story short, it was a complete glitch where someone at the state didn't bother to correct and the DMV didn't bother to look up when I had my new photo taken.

The 4 managers that helped me out (very nice, by the way) were really at a loss, but told me not to pay the driving after suspended license (a $280 fine) because it would be an admission of guilt and lead to a suspended license.

What?

It's true, Red cars are worse.

Many years ago I owned two identical cars in succession, the first was Red, the second was Silver/Blue. I was stopped at least once a month when I had the red car, usually for speeding. When it was stolen and I bought the silver/blue replacement I was stopped only once every two or three months, again usually for speeding.

Of course this happened in the UK where any speeding fines are collected by the courts and go to central govt, not to local govt and those responsible for the local police budgets. Therefore unless you're a complete doofus you have a fair chance of being given a warning when you are stopped. This does assume you show humilty and accept whatever you are accused of doing. Therefore in over twenty year and having being stopped probably over fifty or sixty times in the UK, I have only ever being prosecuted once.

However I was stopped and given speeding tickets 3 out of my 4 first trips to the US. Of course I've never paid them...

US traffic cops have no ability or interest in excercising discretion. They have no sense of humour, and act like Robocop.

I'm really sorry you had such an unpleasant and unwarranted experience, but Red cars really don't help. Good luck with whatever you decide to do to get recompense, but also consider walking away, that might be the least distressing option.

What?

You need to go to court - unannounced, and get them to pull out your file - and have a judge adjudicate after you have all the proof of this F-up. Or request a hearing on the ticket - either way you have a good path to recitifying it.

And when you are vindicated, its a great feeling, especially because of how most (not all, Brian) the LEO act towards "us"

Its like fish, and hookers - You don't want anything shiney, or bright near you, or you get seen. Dark Cars, dark wheels, moderatley tinted windows, and an exhaust you can "make quiet" when needed.

Man, this story just makes me sick in the pit of my stomach They F**k up your car, and don't give a **** whether your right or wrong The worst part is that there is nothing you can do about it Remind me to stay out of Minnesota. Not that it is any better in California.

I grew up in a small town in Southern California, yes it's very easy for LE to single you out because they will remember who you are, where you work, and what you drive.

I always say we need more Andy Taylors and fewer Barney Fifes!

Here's a comforting story.........

Plus he still has to get out of the suspended license issue or they take away the license, it is really not over yet ! Brian's comment on how long it takes to run the numbers does make it sound like they were looking for you. Or pulled you over BEFORE they KNEW and just got lucky.

Actually, on Monday they pulled into our lot and circled right after I pulled in. I was in the same spot, not speeding. I was already walking to the door when they circled through, so I suspect that's why they didn't ticket me and impound me that time. So, the question is: why did they follow me the second time and were they patrolling that street simply to pull me over this morning?

As you can tell, there is no love lost. I do respect them for what they do, I'm just saddened that they have to do it the way that they do.

When I moved back from N. Dakota to Wa. state I made sure my license was completely clean. I had recieved a few driving under suspension tickets in N. Dakota and back then it was a slap on the wrist and a $50 fine.

Six months later I was driving on business in Montana and got pulled over. The officer informed me that my license was REVOKED for 8 years! I had recieved no tickets in the meantime and had done nothing wrong. The great state of Wa. decided that I was a habitual offender due to my tickets in N. Dakota and revoked my license without any formal announcement. It took a couple of lawyers and a lot of money to get that straightened out...

The funny part is that the Montana Highway Patrolman took pity on me since I was driving on business and let me go with a hefty ticket and $250 cash fine alongside the highway. After I got my license back, I called Montana to clear up the driving under suspension ticket I had gotten there...guess what? There was no ticket on file! A Montana Highway Patrol got a bonus that day. I quietly hung up the phone and thanked him for pocketing my money.

there is NO way any computer in the dispatch center or in the cop car could possibly return your plate (registration) & then run your license THAT FAST...no way no how.... think about it...in the time it takes for the cop to drive past you....just the fact that he got your plate was amazing (yet another reason NOT to have front plates :>) but to run it, get a return then run your license and get a return in what....5-10 seconds NO WAY...IMPOSSIBLE.....somehow (that you will never be able to prove) they knew you were coming and already ran the info

BUT you did techinically have a suspended license...so its easy for him to cite you and tow your car...here in CA its a FAT ticket and a mandatory 30 day impound (think $$$$).... Yes the DMV should have notified you when you renenwed, but they will claim a paperwork error....

On the "search" aspect....by law once a car is "impounded" to be towed the officer is obligated to to an "inventory" of the vehicle to document its contents prior to towing....this is a round about way to search a car.....anything they find in the "inventory" that is criminal you will be charged with....fight it all you want you will LOOSE....many court decisions on that one....

However if there is damage to your vehicle caused by the tow, you can file a claim to get the repair cost back...or at least in CA you can...the tow trucks insurance covers it

BTW I've driven a RED 928 for over 4 years and not exactly slow either (my bald tires and crappy gas mileage prove that) & I haven't been pulled over ONCE!!!! (not that I would get a ticket, but still its odd)
A couple of Sheriffs Deputy cars in our county don't have light bars on top. Instead, they have cameras. They are able to automatically pull data from license plates at an incredible rate. I don't remember the numbers, but it's amazing.
