You know what, don't even bother with Mr. Guesswork any more. Just go on line and file a complaint with BAR. Let him explain to them what he did. Just hang on to the bill or send a copy to BAR if they request it. I know that I have said this before, but if you do not perform your own repairs like me, you need to check with others 928 owners in your area and find a good and honest wrench.

My mechanic always gives me the option of ordering my parts or he will order them from 928Intl and put it on my bill and that way there is no markup on the parts. His labor charges are very fair I know this, because I have owned two 928s since 2000 and he is my fourth mechanic. I have been using his services for the past three years. Good luck

Gut feeling, I would not place a stop payment on the check. There is certain criteria that must be met in order for you to place a stop payment on a check and not get yourself into trouble (stop payments in some cases can be treated the same as non-sufficient funds checks, in which case you could end up liable for more than the face value of the check). Worse yet, when you gave the business your check, you were essentially saying you agreed to the work they had completed by paying them with the check. A stop payment could be seen as you not wanting to pay for services rendered, i.e. stealing.

Placing a stop payment on a check is very different than disputing a charge on a credit card.

This is based on my experience in retail sales. I'm not telling you not to do it, just educate yourself first on the legal ramifications it could have on you.

Definately file the complaint with the BAR first and foremost.

I totally agree. No stop payment. If the BAR rules in your favor, they will determine the amount of money that should be returned to you if any. Go on line and follow the directions for filing a complaint. Good lucl

BTW...my mechanic is Jules Hauer he is in Van Nuys about a hundred miles from you, no exactly cost effective. Check with local 928 owners and get a good referral.

BAR Complaint filed.
Mr Guesswork stated I had a power steering leak. He also said he'd fix it! Ha. So when I picked it up, his partner said, oh yea make sure you get that leak fixed otherwise youll be looking at another new alternator.
Sooo Oscar, I would love some help!!!
On the bright side, I drove to Westlake Villiage yesterday. The car was amazing...Had a great day, Glad to have her back

I'm thinking a "leak" doesn't mean a bad pump. Hoses on these things leak all the time and I would start there. Did Mr. Guesswork diagnose the pump as "bad"? If so, 'nuff said...

socalgirl... Check the reservoir, hose connections and hoses
first. Could be the pump or steering rack but more likely
the others.

I replaced my high pressure hose (new, from 928 Int'l) and have
had no problems since with hydraulic fluid leaks(about a year, now).

That area under hood is nice and clean now.

G'luck

Had my baby back two days now...
Twice when driving around today I noticed a fluid leaking, leaving a trail behind me, when I parked.
It is a deep red, in color, and left a mark like the air conditioning would do if it were running. (thin trail)
Was going to start a new thread, but wanted everyone to see the history of the work performed!!!
Please help with thoughts Thanks guys

Since you have a 5 speed, that would definitely be PS fluid. Check the brown reservoir on the front/driver's side of the engine compartment and see if you have much, if any left. Did Mr. Guesswork "try" to fix your leak? This needs attention as the car will be very difficult to steer once the fluid is gone and you risk burning out the pump.

Depending on the path of the leak you are also in danger of an engine fire. If that is a pressure leak that is shooting toward the exhaust manifold the car should not be driven.

Between Rennlist, Jim and company you should have all your 928 needs covered.

You're not going to hurt anything if you really snug up all the P/S hose clamps.
