Afshin, I knew it! Hearing no updates about the 'deal' that you were procuring and no updates on the 'pending' sale of Tom's car was too much of of a coincidence.
You got a great car from a straight-up guy. I could have told you that you'd only have good surprises w/that car especially if you got it @ the price that Tom was initially asking.
Thinking back on what you were looking for - a Concours-caliber car, you found it! Those unique options should lend themselves to some People's Choice consideration, hopefully.
Congrats!!!!

Afshin,

You did, indeed, have a 'prize' under wraps!
Congratulations on your new beauty!
Just curious -- the derivation of the name 'Hollywood Car' . .

Miles of Smiles!

So I talked to Tom about this and this is what the original owner told him. In 1990 Zipper Porsche Beverly Hills placed an order for this 928 and it's twin 911. Both cars were optioned to the max and both were Marine Blue Exterior and Linen w/Blue piping interior. Both also had the Rootwood options. These cars were showroom cars to show the various options available from Porsche. In 1991 the first owner walked into the showroom and bought this car for his wife. Judging by it's condition it hardly ever saw much driving although it does have a couple of minor door dings.

So somewhere out there is a matching 964. Sure would be cool to find it!

I am going to refer to the car as the Beverly Hills Car since that is where it started it's life. The cool thing is that all the orignal documentation is with the car right down to the key replacement codes, the new purchase check list and maintenance log with stamps.

Watch for another post with steps I'm using to restore the car.

Oh yes, Hollywood is sooo "scummy" ... Beverly Hills, or as we call it here on the Left Coast, BH, has much more cachet.

And don't forget that Hollywood = Liberal, and I know that just because you're back in NE doesn't mean you've turned into a Liberal (thank God for that).

Again, congrats on all accounts, Af.

Af- what do you mean "restore"? You are talking cleaning and polishing right? My car needed a "restoration", but surely not that GT.
Tom Falkenberg is not a neglecting owner, he is I'm sure one of the best p.o.'s any of us could hope for.

p.s. Going to SITM '08? We have a whole bunch going down like '07 and '06.

Carl your right, Tom and the first owner both took very good care of this car. It truly is a time warp and well cared for. Basically the "restoration" comment sould be rephrased to preperation for concours. I do have to tend to a few scratches which will take some time but other than that nothing is being replaced.

So nice to have an unmolested pallate to create a masterpiece!

Ahhh...

Afshin lives in Boston, Mass???

A-
Congrats. Seems like you got a very special car. Curious, were you pursuing, or know Tom's GT was available, before you put your S4 on the market?
