Since I'm taking the Blue Ridge Parkway down, I made a map of Skyline Drive and the BRP from the start of Skyline Drive to Grandfather Mountain in .pdf form. The Skyline Drive Runs between Front Royal, VA (RT 66) and Waynesboro, VA (RT 64). The BRP starts at that point. Also included is where to buy gas and a map to the Banner Elk Holiday Inn and their phone number.

Right-click the link below and choose "save target as" and save it to your computer then open it from there.

Or, you can just click on it. It will open and then print the map, but you'll not be able to save it that way.

<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/gh/BRPmap.PDF" target="_blank">BRP map and inf in .pdf form</a>

I can email it to you in .doc or .pdf form if you want me to.

Greg,

You have included the Skyline Drive as part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Skyline
Drive Runs between Front Royal, VA (RT 66) and Waynesboro, VA (RT 64). It tends to be
more heavily patrolled by Johnny Law and is not fast paced as the BRP. That is why we bypass the SD meet up at MM1 on the BRP.

John,

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll leave it on there for those who may want it and I'll edit my post above.

A nice selection of small batch bourbons and single malts as well.

Cool

If you manage to find your way into downtown Asheville, there is an awesome bar called Barley's with all kinds of microbrews and odd European beers on tap.

-Remember to bring a DD to avoid a DUI!

Another place in Asheville that I recommend is a cool little bookstore/coffeeshop called Malaprops. Have fun finding a place to park though!

So - how many folks are going? Anyone have a final count???

Yes - there is a reason I'm asking.... Don't ask why - yet....

JE,

Can you provide a rough idea of how many hours it takes from BRP MM1 to the Holiday Inn?

This is all rumor mind you, but about 7 hours passed between MM1 and the HI in Banner Elk I was told (my watch, speedometer, and car clock were all not working). I recall several stops for gas and rest breaks. There was some possible stretching of the speed limit going on. I understand a particular tool maker and Doctor engaged warp drive and after 20-30 minutes they were found slowed by drivers with a deep affection for viewing the surrounding trees as they poked along. I have a hazy recollection that this was corrected with one driver making a safe pass and then by radio lettting everyone know that the the blind opposite side was clear for however long. I't is entirely possible a few tree huggers got the bejezus scared out of them. But my memory is kinds fuzzy on that.

I'm told the return trip up a crowded truck filled 81 was "interesting" where a combination of "Wolf Pack"/shark school tactics were used to get around convoys of trucks. Apparently the truckers were cussing about a bunch of fool Porsche drivers over their CB's. The group split off at certain points, but I could have sworn that one driver covered @ 400 miles in under 6 hours with several stops before he lost site of one NY bound 928 with a roof accessory.

Mind you, this is what alledgedly occured. :-)

No animals were harmed. It was indeed 7 clock hours (42 mph avg over 300 miles). Gas, food, gawking at each others cars, chewing the fat, answering tourist questions at rest stops. I'd say 2 hours no progress. So, 5 hours. 300 miles. Averaged 60. On one of the finest twisty roads. It was BWAAAHHHH, brake, corner, BWAAAHHHH.... times 6. Well, times 4. The Doc and Pimp Daddy ran away and hid. Alledgedly. You can imagine what we were doing on the speedo from corner exit to next corner entry. It was one helluva day. Alledgedly.

I wish you all safe transit to and from SITM. Lots of bad weather out there right now. For that matter I hope all is well at home also.

I need to stop at Intersport first thing Friday for a tire balance. I'll be there when they open at 8am. Hopefully they can get me out by nine. I may have to hustle down I-81 to get ahead of the caravan past Roanoke. Can i get someones cell number so i can call to find out the caravans location. I seriously doubt i will make Waynesboro in 90 min. from Tysons Corner.

Thanks
