1982 928 does not have a crank sensor.
The "green wire" that is connected to the distributor is more or less the crank signal for the early cars.
This applies to all 78-84 cars except for the 84 EuroS. 928's with a crank sensor it's on the upper bell housing above the flywheel.
What is your issue?

Thankyou for that information.. guess thats why i can't find it.. My issue is that I have no spark and the fuel pump will not run with cranking, have replace the ignition control brain and the ignition switch hoping that might solve the problem, with no change. any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the fun basic stuff:
1. Check the rotor. I've pulld of dist caps to find rotors cracked in half
2. The "green wire" is very suspect. Make sure it's even there and/or not cut in half. It goes from the back of the distributor to a connector above the ignition brain in the passenger side of the engine compartment.
3. You can jump the fuel pump (relay number excapes me) to keep that on.
It will not keep running if the car does not fire to keep the engine from flooding. Do you hear it turn on for a brief second when you turn the key to the on position?
4. When you say "ignition brain" are you talking about the square box on the passenger side between the radiator & the engine (as noted above near the green wire)?
5. Coil could be shot (or coil wire)
6......few more things will hit me
Where are you located?

Also the timing belt may not be turning check by cranking the engine with the dist cap off and see if the rotor is turning. As a test run a jumper wire from the jump start post 12 V to the small positive wire on the coil. That gives it a full 12 v (by passes the two resistors on the inner fender near the radiator) do not run it that way for too long as it overheats the coil. As mentioned the green wire is a common source of such a problem especially the connections near the fender. Has the car EVER being running for you ??

My 79 had an ignition miss only above 4,500 rpm under load - it was the green wire. Looked 100% perfect on the outside.
