Well, I finally got off my duff and made my Sheraton reservations tonight.

And you're right - Porsche was a good word to add. The reservations agent I spoke with was a little unclear on the concept for a moment...

When I said I would be attending the 928 Owners Club Convention, he tried to make my reservations for September 28. I am not kidding.

DFW Airport isn't too far. Anyone who's flying should check and see if the Sheraton has a free airport shuttle. [my guess is they do].

Ouch! Don't remind me of THAT adventure!

The wifey and I will be driving the shark down. She wants to take a side trip through Lubbock, because our youngest daughter's hubby just got a job in Lubbock with the FDIC.

The wifey has to scope out the town to see if she approves.

In case of an emergency we will be able to do something.

The hotel is 100yds from the convention center so no driving is required.

The schedule will remain the same as planned for all three days.

I am trying to organise a Dyno day (thanks Louie) on the Friday for those not wanting to attend the track day.
Saturday will center around the conference center with all activites in side.

Bigs-

In case you missed the above post. . .

You might want to re-think the drive, only to arrive in 'lock-down mode' for the rest of the weekend as stated above by Roger.

You may wish you were licensed in the 'hood' and still practicing 'OB' . . .
An 'emergency page' might just meet the emergency requirements to escape and visit friends / family in McKinney or wherever.

Unless, of course - you don't have a problem parking your shark outside in the summer in TX.

As for Lubbock... well, I cannot comment.

Roger -- a number of people have asked ... any update on this situation??
I have not read all the posts; pardon me if I missed a revised plan.

Thanks,
Doc

Thanks, Doc!

If there's no update to this situation, we may just park the car at the hotel. We want to drive down, but we do want to have use of our car.

Bigs,
Glad you're making it in.

Kim,
Good seeing you at Boardwalk the other day. BTW, did you register yet??

Roger,
Sent in Registration for the Charlie Car and the Silver Bulit. Stretch turned his registration in to Jim last week as well.

For those of you coming in on Friday,
You will have access to an area to wash your 928. If you want someone to wash it for you, I've got a detailer coming and will be available in the afternoon. We'll also have him available for waxing, claybar, interior detail, etc. on Saturday. ("Washing" from the detailer will be unavailable Saturday as all vehicles will be in the convention center and there is no drain there)

PDR "Paintless Dent Repair" will be available all day on Saturday on the convention floor.

I'm bringing the whole Fan Damily, should be a great time!!

Not to take this thread in an adversarial direction, but the people that are complaining about the event aren't even registered. We cannot please everyone.

So, let me be as clear as we can be.

1. Track or autocross events are very expensive to set up and insure.
2. The only OCIC that had a track event lost money at the expense of the organizers.
3. Every convention center in the country, has rules that are very similar due to government regulations regarding the use of combustion engines inside a climate controlled environment.

If you need the use of your car for the entire weekend, we understand that.... however there are many shuttles, and trolley's that can take you to the local sights. However you also need to understand that if you choose to park your car outside the event you still have to register and pay to attend the event..... This is not a money making venture for the Owners Club.... At best we hope to break even... and at the rate people are complaining and not jumping in to help that will be a long shot.

So.... after a history of people who organize these events loosing their own hard earned money how many more OCIC events do you expect to see?

This event is about the people. We would like everyone to enjoy their time together. Its pretty simple. If we make it too complicated then it just won't work.

If anyone reading this thread, thinks they can do a better job, then get involved, volunteer and help out. We are not professional event coordinators.... (this has been communicated several times....) we are spending our time and in some cases our own money to make this event happen. If you can't appreciate that... then do something else that weekend. The people that are complaining have done nothing to assist with the event.... so either quit complaining, or jump in and help.

Sorry if my comments were seen as complaints/criticisms- I guess I have read the posters as trying to figure out how to make the event work for them so they could attend.
A real question: will there be confirmation of registration?

Sterling -

No complaints here! We just have married kids in McKinney, so we may want to drive the shark out there to visit them.

And I'm all signed up, registered, and paid for. Or at least I should be. I mailed my registration check off a couple of weeks ago via snail mail. Hope it arrived OK. Let me know if it didn't.

BTW, I sympathize with the frustration. The first two very small 3rd Coast events were enough to emphasize to me the old adage no good deed goes unpunished.
Looking forward to seeing old and potential acquaintences up in North Texas/South Yankeeland. BTW, I will probably rent a car for the stay (IF my 928 makes it) and can do some shuttle work for beer- payable after the last drop-off.
Thanks to all the organizers for their hard work & money- that's exactly why we elected a demo Congress and Exec branch: 'Get your money for nothing and your kicks for free'!
It's going to be a classic, don't worry.
