I have a 86.5 928S and I am having a hard time finding Die cast models and model kits for the 928S. Does anyone know where I can find these models?

I have purchased several diecast and plastic models from eBay. Motor Max and Welly are two manufacturers that make 1/24th scale diecast models that go for $10 to $15. One seller usually has a set of 4 Wellys for $20.<a href="http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=etoybugs&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=25" target="_blank">etoybugs</a> Although they don't have any listed right now

Also, Nicole (Rennlist Forum User # 3309) has several 928 related items including Herpa models at very reasonalbe prices.

What color is your car? Are you specifically looking for a 1:43 scale model?

I currently have a nice 1:87 scale model of the 928S by Herpa in black, with white interior and white phone dials.

The 1:43 scale NZG models of the 928S are hard to come by these days. I haven't found one at a reasonable price recently. I've been trying to keep those at $25, but it seems to gravitate more towards $30 these days. I'm not sure, if anyone would be willing to pay that kind of money for a model car. Let me know what you think!

Other 1:43 models out there are the low quality Bburago S4 from Italy, and the nice Solido models from France. The Solidos come only as a basic 928 with phone dials, and I've seen them (and their sister brand) in red, yellow, silver, and minerva blue metallic. Solido later offered a brown metallic "GT", which was essentially a regular 928 with the wing and different wheels. I'm supposed to get a minerva blue metallic Solido 928 shortly.

Would you be interested in 928 model kits, too? I could offer you 45-piece a Heller Kit of the 928 (not S), that comes with paint and glue. I have opened it to see what's inside, but it is complete. The body is black, but can be painted in any color.

I don't have any large die cast models - the largest I've seen of the 928 was 1:24. I do have a 928 S4 kit (Airfix) in 1:24, but that was intended for my own collection. Maybe you can bribe me into giving it up...


All:

I DID put some bargains out on ebay tonight - both are the super highly detailed Personal Collection models, with chrome dish wheels, mounted on a display socket and including the original box.

1. This is a brand new midnight blue one with light grey interior. The catch: The pleixiglas cover is missing.

2. This is one of the more rare silver ones with black interior. It had fallen apart during shipping, and I restored it to the best possible condition. It has a fine crack in one of the tail lights, and another small crack in the plexiglas cover. The cover also has some small scratches inside, from the parts flying around during shipping. None of this is obvious to the casual observer.

Both models are ideal, if you intend to display them without the plexiglas covers anyway, for example, if you have a larger display case that they go into.

 

The largest 928 I've seen is 1/20th scale. There is a Tamiya 928 (not S), and another whose name escapes me.

If you are trying to recreate your car, your best be is going to build a model. There are a fair number of AMT and Testors that come on the market for around 10 to 20 dollars. If you are looking for an S4 model, they are harder to find and may cost more, too.

I have a white 86.5 928S and I was first trying to find a 1/24 Die cast model for the 928S. I found out that most of the 928 models are 928S4 models not 928S models. I have been looking at Ebay for a 928S model I can make. Seem silly I guess, but I am on a quest!

 

Nicole, since you are the expert. I am trying to collect red 928S4 and 928GTS since they look like my car. Below is my collection. Can you tell me what I am missing?

Theh red Herpa model you show in the front is not the same red as yours. I have one in the correct red, which even has the mirrors in red.

Only the early Herpa 928 S4 models had matching mirrors - these are extremely rare! I also have a white and two light blue metallic one with matching mirrors...

Other than that, you could try to find a red NZG S4, instead of the black one. Other red 928s I've seen are not S4/GTS models.

If you want to extend your collection to other red 928s, include the Herpa 928, Herpa 928S, Solido 928, and possibly some kits. Really ugly is the PolyStil from Italy. There is also a rare Japanese 1:43 scale model with flip-up headlights; it came in red and yellow.

That's all the red ones I can think about right now...

Concerning the 1/87 herpa. I have two. One is darker red and one is more red -is there a 3rd red? I am keeping the more red one. It does have black mirrors - so I guess there is one like mine with red mirrors.

I got two 928S kits off ebay. One is a Tamiya kit of a 928S (They also have an old bugger version). It's incredibly detailed. I think it's 1/24th scale, and it's motorized. I put that one together. The other is a Testors 928S. That one still sits in my closet gathering dust. I might be persuaded to part with it.

Does anyone remember a huge (and I mean HUGE) model 928 kit from their youth? I believe it was 1:12 scale - yes, 1:12 - it was about 14" long and was made by Revell. It had working coilovers, working steering and hollow rubber tires.

I built this one long ago (I built nearly every 928 model kit that came out because I was a 928 FREAK) and would love to find another one. I've never seen one on Ebay or anywhere. Actually, I've never even heard anyone mention this, the mother of all 928 kits. Did I imagine it all?

You are not imagining it. At Euro 928 2002, the guy with the Rothmans 928 had the same model in the display case painted to match his car. There was another one at Euro 928 2001 in Green. I got it in a picture.

Whoah, John. Excellent picture. I remember the Rothmans model now, but didn't know what it was. I assumed it was a Remote Control car had been painted up. Boy, that guy sure loved the Rothmans livery, eh?

Where did the picture of the green one come from? I ask because the display cases shown in your picture are not the ultra-cool Porsche-certified display cases they used at the hotel at Euro 928-2002. :-)

That model was so sweet, it was the only piece of work I ever ended up putting my fist through. I was absolutely heartbroken that my brush-on (!) silver paint turned out horribly. I was a dumb kid and didn't realize you're supposed to use SPRAY paint on these things...oh, and painting the body first rather than last would have been a big help, too. What a waste of a great kit!

OK, who'll start the petition to get Revell (or whomever) to do another run of those kits?
