The plugs from my old heads had melted, but I used the intact plastic plugs from the used GT heads when I rebuilt my engine. I simply didn't like the idea of the pins, it seemed so inelegant. I didn't even buy them to check so I can't advise you on fitting, good luck.

Place is right but either pin has too wide narrow section or oil holes are unusually small in that head for some reason. Entire narrow part of the pin should slide right into hole. My bet is on wrong part.

Simple pin might be inelegant solution but there was very good reason for factory to change it. Metal & rubber version hasn't been available after change was done on production line.

I got the parts from 928 Specialists anyone else get the parts from them and having the same problem?

So the part is suppose to slide all the way down in the hole until it reaches the thicker side? It has a beveled end on the very end of the small end but its only about 1-2cm long and thats the only part that will fit in there and its not enough to allow it to fit in there.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I am replacing the rubber caps with pins too, and am running into the same issue. The Pin does NOT fit into one of the holes where it should ( upper Cam, drivers side ) It fits into the hole for the lower cam perfectly, but the corresposnding hole on the uppper cam is too small. ( I have not tackled the passenger side yet, just drivers side) Wondering what you did...

Another forum member pointed out that the size was different for early 87's, can't remember if its in this thread or the other one Bill linked. The only option for me was to grind down the pins so they could fit in the holes. That was my solution. Good luck with it.

Looks like I will chuck them up in my press and turn them down a bit. After the anguish of getting the cover off :
1. One sheared Cam Cover bolt;
2. One stripped Cam Cover Bolt;
3. One bent Cam Cover bolt;
4. One UNBELIEVABLY tight Cam Bridge bolt, stripped;
5. A ghastly mish-mash of multi-colors of RTV smeared everywhere inside;
(All little gifts from the PO)

A little time turning down a pin is a walk in the park.

For those of you who were counting, that is three of the SHORT cam cover bolts that need replacing (928.104.111.01), at the NASA price of about $24 each. Strangely, the long bolts are less than half of that...

IIRC someone has sourced new, improved and I'm sure cheaper bolts. I do not remember what MY or other details, but if I were you I would spend some time searching here, it was in the last couple months. Maybe it was Roger Tyson, does anybody have a lead?
