It would be interesting to know the statistics on duration of ownership, number of 928's owned, etc., that kind of stuff. Perhaps we could compile some data... Maybe worth the admin setting up a poll?
Just curious; it would be gratifying to know that people *kept* them for a while.
I've had my 81 for 15 yrs. & just added the 89 to the "fleet".

I have had my 86S for 7 years. At times I think about selling it but my wife won't let me unless I replace it with another car that makes me happy. I can't think of another car I would want (within financial limitations) so it stays. If it continues to hold up as well as it has, I will probably keep it for another 7 years.

Well, between me and my dad we've had it since it was new, so that's 17 years. And it only has 32k miles!
We've had it long enough that I used to fit in the back seat. I doubt there are too many 928 owners who can make that claim!

I bought my first 928 in spring of 1997 - that's 5 1/2 years ago. I sold it two years later, after I discovered that it must have been in a severe accident at some point - it had been repainted all around, and I did not want to put money into a car that was not original. Then I bought a '91 GT, which I only kept for 8 months - it was fast, but I did not like the manual transmission and clutch. Finally, I found my current car, and I think that one is going to stay. Ask me again in a few years...

4 years and 1 month with my first (so far) 928. I decided I wanted one a couple of years before that though.
BTW, Nicole, I heard of a cobalt blue one for sale somewhere...........How long are you going to keep your current one? Just joking!

Good idea for a poll! Let’s kick it up a notch and add “How long” and “Why” we wanted a shark before acquiring one.
O.K…”Sharkey” my first one was bought earlier this year in April I believe after seriously looking around for 6 months. Some may remember my cry for help earlier on in Rennlist. I believe Nicole sent me in the direction of my present one which I now enjoy thoroughly.
Wanted one ever since my Uncle had one of the first of 500 924’s produced and announced later after wrecking his 924 that he was considering the new 928. Test-drove my first 928 back in 91’ …an 86’ I believe but was afraid I couldn’t afford the maintenance at the time.
I since got a decent job and Sharkey now sits peacefully in the garage and I’ve made several new friends because of him.
O’h man…look…I think I’m misting up now!

Bought the 84S 5 yrs ago with 43k on the clock. Beast of a daily driver. Put 50k and maybe $2500 over that time.
Bought the 83 EuroS 4 yrs ago with 149k. Fresh engine assembly pending. Chassis gutted for track. Still has 149k on it.
Bought the 78 on Friday. 40,667 miles. Gorgeous. Second daily driver duties are in it's future. Now one of them can be down for maintanance and I still have a 928 to drive.
There's little doubt what I'm going to be driving for the next several years.

I've been the proud owner of my 80.5S Euro since August '02. First drove (not owned) one in 1980. It took 22 years to get one so I plan on keeping it up and running for MANY years to come.

Yesterday was my 3rd anniversary with my GT. 3 years and 42 thousand miles later, and I still grin from ear to ear when I climb in and start 'er up. I put a fair amount of money into it, to get things up to spec, and then twice that amount into upgrades, but very little since then. It just goes and goes, and there are no plans to EVER get rid of it. (knocking on wood right now)First fell in love with the 928 after seeing Bigfoot crush one in "The Cannonball Run", then again in "Risky Business". Wanted one ever since.

Bought mine 1 1/2 year ago.
It is so much fun to drive and fairly easy to maintain (so far), much thanks to this board.
Would like a clean S4 or GTS some time in the future, will keep this as well if I can afford it.
My wife enjoys driving the shark as well so....
