Default Something useful for duel-disc clutch owners.

I have a spare lower bellhousing I install for inspecting / adjusting the clutch. Once working I put the unmodified cover back on.

This makes adjusting the clutch super easy:

you can adjust our clutches?

so, is that just a plate that comes off now?

Cool for inspection too.

No plate, I've been thinking about making one like that. This one I swap on / off when going a clutch job.

I see. So, seriously, what do you look for on an adjustment. Ive done a bunch of them, some with and without the those little piano wires, and have never really had any issues. Is " clutch dragging" the problem that can be adjusted out?

Hacker, sorry I'm an idiot, but...
You swap the whole housing for adjustments?
Thanks,

What adjustment? Just push it all the way in and it adjusts itself.

Thanks,
I think it's only 6 bolts, and if you've got crossovers instead of the stock exhaust, the lower bell housing is an easy swap (for the ones that don't have the starter attached to the lower bell housing.

Erik,
Thanks for the pic, I head read on here that a few people had done this, and was wondering what it looked like. I think I may have to get one and play around with the 'removable panel' idea.

Interesting; I took off my clutch slave cylinder a couple of weeks ago (trying to get the last bit of air out... & failing) & I put it back with a longer bolt plus nut at the bottom like the one in the foto. I thought it would be more secure than simply screwing into the alloy housing. I think I can live with the extra weight.

I hadn't noticed that, good call. (The weight difference can probably be offset by emptying the ashtray or leaving the map home).

Not fully always, though it gets it close I find that they work alittle better if you go in and tweek them just abit after it has self adjusted.

And I like that idea Erik, though I have never seen a clutch pack dueling. I suppose it could be used as a blunt dueling instrument.

I've tried that on four different cars, one with a new intermediate disc, the others age was unknown. For some reason that method doesn't work for me.

So I simply center the imtermediate disc when the clutch disengaged. I know there are other was to do this with the cover off. I prefer doing it this way. The cover takes a few minutes at most to swap over.

This was actually spawned a few years ago when my clutch saga began. Out of frustration trying to figure out why my clutch was going in / out of adjustment at random. Jim made this cover, put the car on the lift and had one of his guys run the car through the gears as we watched from below to see what was going on.

To clear up some potential confusion for people who are not familiar with the clutch....

The clutch slave cylinder is mounted to the lower bell housing. In order to operate the clutch from inside of the car, the slave cylinder needs to be mounted to the housing. The intermediate plate can be adjusted with the housing off and without operating the clutch, but being able to operate the clutch AND tweek the adjustment at the same time could be very helpful. Great idea! The access window in the bell housing could even be cut smaller.
