I'm about to retrofit a new Oil Cooler. I have the Oil Cooler itself (the most expensive part I have ever bought for my car), the two small brackets and grommets, and the oil cooler lines (and a new oil thermostat for good measure). I also have the large pressed moulding that goes in front of the cooler, although I'm not sure whether I need it. I'm also going to have to modify the S4 spoiler to allow airflow through to the oil cooler.
What would really help is any photos of the oil cooler as fitted to your GT or GTS. Thanks in anticipation.
Here are a couple I found, will look for better ones for you. Note the oval holes in the factory spoiler for airflow to the cooler.

I'm asking out of ignorance- does your front chin spoiler have the cutouts to vent air through the oil cooler? The spoiler part # changed in '90, not sure if it's because of these openings.

Rob, that's superb - a huge help. Neither the spoiler nor the bracket directly in front of the cooler have cut-outs. I have the new bracket (for some bizarre reason it only cost £9 new from Porsche - I was expecting over ten times that), I will try modifying the plastic spoiler.
At long last here's my attempt at retro-fitting the oil cooler.
I didn't have time to pull the rad and replace the rubber stops, so the oil cooler is sitting slightly lower than it should.
Here's the pathetic aftermarket cooler that was fitted by the PO, not only is it too small to do anything useful, but there was no airflow through it anyway.
I haven't yet modified the spoiler, I doubt I'll be able to make anything other than round holes, and hopefully I'll avoid weakening it so much that it produces that typical GT grin.
Finally a big thank you to Roger who not only supplied the used Oil Cooler lines in excellent condition, but he made sure they were spotless before shipping them.

Oh, how I'd like to do this to my 89 S4. The stock radiator with integrated oil cooler is barely up to task in open road racing. So, this requires the cooler, new hoses, the sheet metal and making some mounts and modding the spoiler for airflow. $$$$???
Paul, just curious as to why you need to run an oil cooler?
Don't forget all 928s have Oil Coolers, but the side tank oil cooler had failed some time ago. The PO installed the diminutive oil cooler in the photo, completely sheilded from any airflow.
A couple of weeks ago I was at the Ring and this time the GT Oil Cooler kept the engine temps under control, never above the upper white line even with ambient temps over 27deg and the air con switched on.
Also the oil pressure was maintained by the Penrite 15W-60, never dropping below 1.5 on idle.
Here's an addendum to this thread regarding the addition of a GT oil cooler to a non-GT or GTS car.
The radiator mounts in an S4 are made entirely of rubber where the GT/GTS mounts have a metal backing w/ a stud going down through the chassis. You'll need these "Gummimetallpuffer" mounts which are shown as an alternate part in the '92-'95 GTS PET catalog. The oil cooler attaches to the underside of these radiator mounts.
So in addition to the basic oil cooler parts shown in the '87-'91 PET here:
You'll also need these radiator mounts (Part #928.106.179.00)
I would try and paint that shroud deal that goes in front of the cooler. Its supposed to be black and i noticed yours is just bare. You may want to throw some paint on that, or not.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have a related question. Parts 2-8 in the PET diagram below are missing on my GTS. So, are these parts supposed to be present, or is the PET wrong? I know they're present on S4s without the separate oil cooler, but they don't seem necessary with the brackets on the separate oil cooler. And I don't see those parts on the oil cooler pictures posted above.
Agreed, part 2 is part of the oil cooler itself. The image you have posted is pre-89. Another part I can't find listed is the ducts/guides that are fixed to the sides of part 21 to prevent airflow escaping sideways.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I also noticed the ducts/guides are missing from the PET. Not sure if it's more disconcerting to have parts missing from the PET, or to have parts in there that shouldn't be.
By the way, the picture I posted is from the GTS PET. I checked the S4/GT PET, and parts #2-8 are marked for '89 and earlier. But rather than remove the parts from the GTS PET, they removed the comment!

Total of about $900 - cooler plus hoses and parts.
Does not include the metal molding in front of the cooler.
