You said passenger side, I think he said driver's side. Maybe my car is missing some padding or something under the carpet because I'm sure there's no room in mine for two heavy gauge RCA cables to slip through without making a bulge in the carpet.

I'll have to take another look.

It's been so long without a radio that I just sat in the car in the garage last night with the door speakers only hooked up listening to it. I can't WAIT to get my interior done. Two weeks and counting...

Thanks again for the advice and comments. (and sorry again for the hijack.)

This is an interesting thread for me. I removed 2 -10" subs and amp from the spare tire well that the PO had installed (along with a DVD player). He had disconnected the rear speakers and used the subs as the rear speakers. Sounded terrible and may have been part of an electrical problem I was having.

So, I have removed all that. Now I am thinking about reconnecting the rear speakers and installing one of the subs in the spare tire well. MBQuarts 10" reference Sub.

NJSharkFan - I think you can go either way on the wiring. Just make sure that it is either next to the door or the console for the run. The PO ran the wires on the passenger side next to the console, under the rear seat to the spare tire well. It could have been a lot cleaner and I will do it better this time.

Jason - please keep us informed on your install and electrical issues.

Thanks

My wires ran from the center console under the carpet under the middle of the passenger seat carpet and then under the rear passenger seat. The carpet covers it no problem and no lump. I did leave the wires loose so they are able to spread out flat. Jason

That's the way I was going to run them, but I'd have to pull up the carpet that's glued in there, and probably remove at least one seat and the console to get it all the way through, right? I was going to wait until the new carpet came in and do it all at once, but if it can be done along one side without any bulges in the carpet, that would be fine, and I wouldn't have to wait for the new carpet.

Thanks!

Right or wrong my carpets aren't glued down. Some one probably changed them out at some point. Jason

there is no other box made to fit 2 10" subs for a 928 specifically. Thats so much space that you would just make your own anyway or buy one premade and throw it in the car. I dont like the look of those, i think it makes a mess of the interior.

I just added a Basslink and i love it. Its a single 10" with amp and fits in the spare tire well. Although its higher then i would like. (Thinking of ways to fix that as we speak.)

I guess if you want your car to literally thump then get a pair of subs, the single infinity does it for me. But i dont have a highly tuned ear so who knows. I will say the sound difference between a sub and no sub is HUGE!
You really don't need a PAIR of Subs to thump. I made a custom box in my SUV with a single Dual Voice Coil 10" Fosgate Sub Woofer and that thing hits and booms hard. It is being pushed by a Fosgate Amp too. This was 7 years back too and I am sure the technology is way better now. I just have always been a Fosgate and Cerwin fan, which is why I still use them. I would just build a box to fit in your spare tire area and make sure it has a port in the box. You can probably Google porting a sub woofer box and see what I mean. Just so you know, back in the day I used to run a single 15" in my trunk and that ended after too many tickets for noise violations. To be young and dumb (and def) again

NJSharkFan, I'm with Jason, my carpet is not glued down. There is a under, sound proofing (I guess) that is glued under the carpet. No need to take that up.

The PO ran the wires exactly like Jason did. I am sure Jason's is much more professional looking

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

NJShark - Sorry for late reply but the RCA cable wasn't extra heavy guage but still just a matter of lifting the tunnel? carpet away and snaking the wire between the seat and tunnel, under the rear seats and then your there. Same for the remote switch.

Rixter...well I have envy! Nice setup. In Charlotte end of month. Any 928 events to see?

again,

my RCA's went from the HU, down the tunnel, behind the accelerator pedal, under the dead pedal and into the fairly large channel on the frame rail along with a giant bundle of wiring thats already there. Its not actually under the front mat, its under the long thin carpet piece that runs on top of the frame rail and leaves NO bulge at all, it is wired with a bunch of other stuff and is really seamless. The only place it goes that's different from other wiring is under the drivers side rear seat which when i pull the rear panels i may route it under that, but it makes no difference to me, its all hidden.

Ryan,

Thanks, that's where I thought you were talking about. I haven't pulled up that thin strip of carpet yet, I thought it was just molded to the inside of the body, but if there are other wires, I'll just follow along. That was the only stretch I was worried about since it would be under cover next to the seat, and in the rear it seems like it would fit. I just don't want no bulges man! I'll give it a shot.

Rixter, that is a MAD setup. How do you keep the hatch glass from leaking? or even shattering.

I'm going to go with a lonely hidden 10" and hope for the best.

Honestly you will be shocked at what ANY sub does for the low end. I love to fool around with the HU now and switch the sub On and OFF and you can see so much of the song is missing when you dont have low frequencies. I dont need to shatter glass but the Basslink is great, its all i ever need and would only change it to build something larger but not as tall so there is no bulge in the trunk. also I need to find a way to mount the Basslink down without drilling holes in the body. I am thinking of ways to do that still but have no firm quick way yet.

I know when I added a sub to my home system for the first time a few years ago, I swore I'd never go back. That's what I want for my car.

For the Basslink:
What about a custom cut piece of plywood or MDF that's screwed down to the existing holes in the body (tie-down spots I think at the four corners) and bolt the sub to that?

You don't need 2 subs, just get a quality sub and build the correct enclosure. A single 10in sub should need +/- one foot cubed in a sealed enclosure. I have an average sub and a .85 foot cubed enclosure.

Here is what I have sitting in my spare tire well.

and another view

I have gotten numerous compliments on how hard my setup hits.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

for mounting i was actually thinking of making a cover plate that would be a peice of wood that would fit the factory slats that the tire cover goes into. But there would be an exact hole cut into the wood that would act as a type of frame for the basslink. This would get the height on that side the same and allow for some storage in the remainder of the wheel well for crossovers for the rear if i cant hide them someplace else or tools or whatever.
