Default 86 with spoiler deletes?

I looked like an idiot today at the local salvage yard. They have 3 928s - 79 Euro, 85 and 86. I walked up on the 86 and it didn't have spoilers. I said "someone got the year wrong on this one" and then found out that in fact it was an 86 that must have been ordered without spoilers. I figure that is probably a pretty rare car but not necessarily worth more due to the deleted spoilers.

OK now

Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me. The 79 had an almost new Borla exhaust on it that they wouldn't sell me. When I asked why they told me they sell them for scrap?! That car has been sitting there for years you'd think they'd want to sell every part they could. Also wanted some parts off a 914 but they have a $50/part minimum. I'm pissed because there were so many parts off of those cars that I would take if priced reasonably but $50 a pop most of them will go with the car to the crusher. It was like they were trying to NOT sell me parts!

Any ideas on how I can get these guys to be reasonable? Some parts are priced fairly and others are stupid high...they just don't have a clue. They have a help wanted sign...maybe I can just get a job there and take off little parts here and there.

You answered your own question...."they just don't have a clue. " They just do business the way they always have.

That wouldn't be Apex Auto Parts in Tulsa? Years ago I dealt with them on 924 parts but they got outlandish on some of their parts. I've also dealt with OK Foreign. Their prices were a mixed bag.

I've seen a rear spoiler delete on a local '85 car. It still had the chin spoiler.

Jim...thanks for the reply. I understand that I'm buying from someone outside the "928 brotherhood" and I appreciate your advice and time spent supporting our community. But shipping fenders gets expensive and at $225 for a good fender I don't think shipping one from you would have been an option.

Dennis...Actually I just moved to Cincinnati. I've bought some stuff from OK Foreign before and I think your "mixed bag" comment is dead on. If you catch the head honcho guy in a good mood then you're fine if not then parts get expensive in a hurry and they aren't willing to help out much.

I just get damn irritated when logic and reason don't guide policies... basically saying "oh we'd rather get $20 from a scrap yard for the Borla exhaust than to sell it to you at a reasonable price" That and the pass fender I really want is on the 86 but they want $1800 for the whole front end...and the drivers side fender is damaged! He said he'd probably sell it to me in a couple of months but wouldn't take the other one in exchange. So anyone need a good pass fender off an 85? (that is if I get this other one in a couple of months)

The Borla exhaust is worth more than $50. Scrap prices for stainless probably wouldn't even bring that much. It might be close.

Not a problem at all and you got a great deal with zero shipping ! The old traditional "junk yards" just look at it as junk and it sits outside in the weather and ruins more than they sell.

It makes me sick that with the exception of the 85 the other two cars were pristine examples until unfortunate incidents. The 86 body and interior was in great shape but the engine was done... probably suffered from a neglected timing belt. Then the "salvage yard" trashed a good leather dash to get out the gauge cluster. Makes as much sense as not selling me the Borla so they can sell it for scrap!

yup that borla is made of unobtanium......way back I bought the last Borla 14276 exhaust that summitracing had in stock.... i figured they would have one since no one in their right mind would buy a porsche exhaust from summit.....

There is/was a local '86.5 that hadd the complete S delete (no front or rear spoilers). If you didn't know, it looked like an early 928 woth S rims, but at closer look you cpould see the 4 piston calipers throught the manole rims.

Yea this guys a jerk! I've called him on the phone and it's like talking to someone in a mental institution that isn't paying attention!
