I installed my new timing chains & installed my modified cams. Using the Porsche tool this is what I got.........
With the cams 7 links apart the lobe profile doesn't fit in the tool even if I rotate the cams. Any one seen this before?

I thought of that. The numbers on the cams don't match the numbers in the WSM. How else could I identify them. I'm sure there must be some characteristics that set them apart. Anyone know?

Each cam has numbers, like 1-4 and 5-8. And then a letter, IIRC. The letter is the Exhaust or intake designation, and the 1-4 and 5-8 is the side of the engine. Does that help?

are you at the timing marks on the cam gear too?
I would put this tool on the cams on the ground before i ever installed them, to make sure the cam chains and marks were correct. then the issues would be with the cam pulley and marks.

Well, I don't know then. But I am paying close attention since I will need to put mine on soon.

if I remember correctly that cam tool is only good for one years cams... its in the workshop manual... if you started mixing and matching cams that never came from the factory, it would make a big difference... its probably not off enough to cause contact when you rotate the engine... I would check it with dial indicators.... if you are way off then you are a tooth off. if you are close its just the differences in the cams.
Thanks, Hammer
