Default Engine builders help needed, pics

I installed my new timing chains & installed my modified cams. Using the Porsche tool this is what I got.........
With the cams 7 links apart the lobe profile doesn't fit in the tool even if I rotate the cams. Any one seen this before?

your exhaust cam on the passenger side head is 1 or more teeth off on the cam chain.

No it's not. That's why I included the tensioner side pic. See the cam pointers? Count the links.

I thought of that. The numbers on the cams don't match the numbers in the WSM. How else could I identify them. I'm sure there must be some characteristics that set them apart. Anyone know?

Each cam has numbers, like 1-4 and 5-8. And then a letter, IIRC. The letter is the Exhaust or intake designation, and the 1-4 and 5-8 is the side of the engine. Does that help?

are you at the timing marks on the cam gear too?
I would put this tool on the cams on the ground before i ever installed them, to make sure the cam chains and marks were correct. then the issues would be with the cam pulley and marks.

I don't remember anything like 1-4 or 5-8 on it but if it was I know what that means. I went by the casting numbers & the engraved numbers on the rear ends of each cam.

Well, I don't know then. But I am paying close attention since I will need to put mine on soon.

I'll recheck the manual. If necessary I'll go with the dial indicators. I was hoping someone had an explanation.

Thanks, Hammer

I can confirm that these cams should have 1-4 and 5-8 cast on them, at least on the intake cams for sure.

you are off 1 tooth. check the distance, not the number of teeth. looks like you are off by counting teeth too.
